The hardest match to win

Not 'the impossible match to win', but the hardest. The 2002 OZ final, 110 degrees on court, soul-breaking match.

Par example ... you're the opponent and ....

Red clay, Azarenka has her groundies dialed in. She's totally beatable, but every rally is goon to be ten plus shots.

Serena's serve isn't working, but her legs are feeling good.

Radwanska's in 'human backboard' mode.

What's the WORST winnable match for a top thirty player, providing they're willing to suffer?

Re: The hardest match to win

Jankovic at her dramatic best will lead, throw the lead away, spot you a massive lead in the third set, decide to come back with some blazing retrieving and backhands, almost comeback, and then hand you the win, possibly with back to back double faults or netted forehands. You have no agency in this match. You might start to wonder if you have free will. Perhaps solipsism is true after all - is it Jankovic's world and you're simply allowed to live exist in it? It's basically existential waterboarding.

I hate it when the first response in the thread is the best one I know I'll see.

I'm actually shedding skin imagining that.

Re: The hardest match to win

Early Venus on Grass.

At her best, you have to keep up and try and go for every single winner whether you're comfortable or not. If you didn't she either tracked it down with a decent return or dismissed it outright.

Serena vs Venus was a good example of this in 2008. Serena dictated a good number of the points, but Venus kept counterpunching and eventually Serena couldn't keep burning at the same pace she started. (4-1 lead? Gone. 3-1 Lead? Gone) Venus (when her game worked to it's full potential) kept the pressure on at all times.

Re: The hardest match to win

plenty of player hated playing Smashnova.
even in-form over-powering and huge serving players usually needed more than an hour for a 6-2 6-1 scoreline.
