When I first checked the doppio list, I didn't see them listed in Miami (maybe wishful thinking). I don't know if I have the strength to follow the doppio... Just want to move on to the clay and hope it has magical properties.

Yes, I think she should play...

Now she will stare on Grönefeld and have fun in doppio when the situation is not funny

Re: Julia's 2014 - April & May - Clay Court Season Pt. 1

Julia will play Virginie Razzano in the first round of Charleston. Razzano beat Watson in straight sets in Miami, then lost to Flipkens in 3.

Saw her in Melbourne where she was very up-and-down, alternating great points with horrible UEs.

Sounds like they will be well-matched then.

You guys, I had a dream about being a ball boy for a Minella-Goerges match.

I have forgotten most of the dream by now, but I remember
- Being nailed in the forehead by Julia's forehand and her laughing
- Becoming weak-kneed when Julia asks me for balls

You mean she has wild forehands even in dreams? I hope she at least won the match.

Don't know how Razzano is on clay, but I have high hopes for Julia, at least in the first round.

- Becoming terrified because Julia yells at you for messing up her ball routine.

Re: Julia's 2014 - April - Intercontinental Travels from Charleston to Brisbane

Julia has been nominated for Fed Cup, presumably for stupido doppio, and will therefore arrive in Stuttgart pretty much without much chance to survive R1.

Will use this thread for Charleston & Fed Cup, then a proper new one for the clay court season.

Yes, unless she discovers some kind of miracle elixir to replenish energy, she'll go into Stuttgart with two strikes against her. Stupid scheduling.

Re: Julia's 2014 - April - Intercontinental Travels from Charleston to Brisbane

We saw in Katowice last year how much Jet Lag affected her, and the turnaround Brisbane -> Stuttgart will be much worse. I know she loves Fed Cup, but Stuttgart is the one tournament were she has pretty much always played well.

Re: Julia's 2014 - April - Intercontinental Travels from Charleston to Brisbane

Gonna ramble off my thoughts

First of all, the first part of the match can only be described as absolutely disastrous. Shockingly so. She was down 0-6 0-3 40-40. She lost 13 points in a row at the beginning of the 2nd set. And not against a top player but rather against (with all due respect) Virgina Razzano. I have a hard time imagining how that even went, how badly she must have played to even reach that scoreline. And she was getting tons and tons of first serves into play, in the first set it was above 80%. Those 9 games alone should set off all the alarms in the world, she must realize that there is something seriously wrong with her game.

Then of course, on the positive side, she didn't give up at a point where many probably would have. No idea if Razzano's hand started shaking of if Julia played much better, but to come back from that deficit and actually pull out the 2nd set is impressive, at least as far as her fighting spirit is concerned.

And then comes the 3rd set and all is bad again. Yes, Razzano took an ridiculously long toilet break, but she's allowed to do that. There are distractions in tennis, you can't play in a vacuum. I don't know if that's what triggered it, but from then on it never really looked good anymore. The first return games went quickly, and the break inevitably followed. Even though she managed to briefly get back on serve it was gone again quickly, and she collapsed completely from there. These kind of struggles really just shouldn't happen against a player like Razzano, where every single service game is a nailbiter that eventually starts going badly. She does have one of the best serves on tour, and yet she has so many stretches where it looks like she has Errani's serve. She won 27% of her points on first serve in that set. It's mindblowing.

Bottom line, yes her fighting spirit exists, but at the end of the day this is another terrible loss against a player against whom she just should not lose (especially not like this) if she wants to get back anywhere near the "right track".

But I fear that once again there is not much hope for change. Here's still stupid doubles so it won't really feel too badly to lose R1, then she'll go to Fed Cup, have a fun time there, for Stuttgart she's excused and then the clay season is halfway over already. She'll surely play Madrid and Rome, even though she won't make the MD there because she has to carry Grönefeld in that stupid doubles. And it all goes on, too much to die, too little to live with no sign whatsoever that she is willing to make any kind of changes.
