Simona and Jelena with a great chance to go up in Indian Wells, while Maria, Kerber, Theotherova and Errani will fight to defend their points.Things could change quickly again.

Re: Ranking Battle for #6 - #10

To give an idea of what they're defending in March, here's how the ranking (after Serena & Na) should change with 10 points (for first round) replacing last years points at Indian Wells:

3 Radwanska 5575
4 Azarenka 5441
5 Halep 4395
6 Jankovic 4385
7 Sharapova 4216
8 Kvitova 4125
9 Kerber 4050
10 Errani 3775

And with 20 points replacing both IW and Miami:

3 Azarenka 5451
4 Radwanska 5135
5 Halep 4325
6 Kvitova 4055
7 Kerber 3980
8 Jankovic 3945
9 Errani 3535
10 Sharapova 3526

9 Errani 3535
10 Sharapova 3526

So basically after these two tournaments you can replace halep and sharapova and it will still the same almost.

In theory Dominika Cibulkova is about 400 pts behind Sara Errani and Maria Sharapova:

11 Cibulkova 3135 (80 in IW & 140 in Miami)
12 Ivanovic 2955 (80 in IW & 140 in Miami)

I'm inclined to agree, with the one concern being the way she's played thus far this season. 7-3 isn't a particularly impressive record two months into the year, and losses to players in the 10-30 range (Pavlyuchenkova, Cibulkova) aren't encouraging.

It really doesn't matter what their ranking is. The fact of the matter is they executed the perfect game plan to beating Sharapova. They matched her power, but were better movers around the court. A lot of Maria's shots that would usually be winners kept coming back. And once they started dictating the points to Maria, she couldn't keep up.

If she falls out of the top 10, she can get back, but it will be hard. She won't have the luxury of easy draws anymore at events. She could be facing Serena, Li Na or Vika in the QF or fourth rounds at tournaments. And most of the players in the top 10 aren't going to be easily overpowered by Sharapova's power. Errani is the only exception.
