The problem is Wozniacki's whole persona was built on strong tour results. So this idea that basically the tour doesn't matter anymore and she just wants to fast track to a grand slam seems unlikely. Wozniacki may be the player who talks about winning grand slams in her interviews more than any other player these days.
The way she talks you'd think she's a player knocking on the door. Yet in the last 2 years she has 1 R4.
The whole aura of her game was built on the tour. Take a look at the Australian Open. In the final game vs Muguruza. She lost rallies of 26 strokes, 20 strokes, 20 strokes. That just wouldn't have happened 3 years ago. The players believe they can beat her now. She isn't really mentally strong at all anymore (contrary to some people's views imo). She's thrown away so many leads in the past year or so, and we're not talking vs top players either, vs middle ranked or even lower ranked players.
For me her confidence is completely shot. She now will give away crucial games with near unthinkable unforced errors. 4-4 vs Muguruza last month. Match vs Hampton at Eastbourne last year. As a player it's hard to kid yourself, so it's hard to feel confident when you've been under performing for such a long time. So it's no surprise we see what we see.
You do realize she shouldn't plan her career around draws falling apart?
I think she should try to do what she used to, win matches and get deep into draws regularly, not just majors. But we've seen plenty of deep slam runs without playing a top 16 seed, so its there in WTA tennis now. Not on ATP side
The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there Enjoy This Moment!!
HEALTH and HAPPINESS to EVERYONE
She sounds delusional, it's tragic. I literally can't imagine a draw that would allow her to win a slam, looking at who she has been losing to in recent years.
She can't even make it deep enough into a tournament to take advantage of any favorable draws. I wonder if she really is that out of touch about her own situation which would be absolutely shocking, or if this is just PR talk to keep her sponsors happy and the money machine going (more likely, she can't be that clueless..)
there's actual transcript of her interview if someone is interested which I doubt
Q. Grand Slams. Is that still your main aim for 2014, as well?
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI: Of course. I mean, I have achieved basically anything I could on the tour. You know, I have won 21 tournaments and been No. 1 for so long. Grand Slams is definitely the biggest goal of mine that I haven't achieved yet.
