Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Julie Noe and Ulrikke Høyer were playing qualies for a 10K in Greece this week but both girls lost (Julie in QR2; Ulrikke in QR1). Otherwise there's not much going on for the juniors at the moment - not until the junior ITF in Denmark in October, I guess.

Meanwhile, some of Ulrikke Høyer's model photos can be seen here (there are several pages; click "next" for more):
http://www.2pm.dk/women/model/ulrikke_hyer_1/cok_del/

Her styling is often somewhat excessive but that's obviously not her fault. She's really beautiful being just plain like on the photos from the penultimate page of the link. For instance:

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Yeah, good to see some of the younger Danish girls performing well. Simone Alipieva reached the SF at the HRT Autumn Cup, which is a pretty good reslut.

Emma Rønholt has had some mixed results in Denmark lately, for instance defeating Malou Ejdesgaard 63 64 in a club match in August, and losing to Malou 16 36 a week ago. No consistency at the moment.

Emilie Francati has played three big tournaments in Asia lately. Currently she's in the SF in Korea (a grade 2 tournament). Emilie will probably move to #160 or so in the ITF rankings (assuming she loses the SF ). She'll be the highest ranked Danish junior since Mai Grage in 2010. Emilie's SF opponent in Korea, Xu Shilin (CHN) has been amazing so far losing only 7 games in her previous 3 matches, so I don't see Emilie winning the SF. Still a very good tournament by Emilie defeating two seeded players GL!

Julie Noe has also played three tournaments in Asia, but lower grades than Emilie. She reached the QF twice, and R3 once. OK results. Curiously, she was beaten by the no. 1 seeded player at each of the three tournaments!

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

I Kinda have feeling Simone Alipieva going be the next big player coming out Denmark I would like too see Rebekka Hillingso & Ida Krause do good as well in the future and raise up the Junior ranking but as now Simone way ahead everybody but they are all still so young at the same token

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Emilie Francati is ranked #156 in today's ITF rankings. It's by far the best we've seen from a Danish girl for quite some time. Entry at the big tournaments like Orange Bowl and the Grand slams is within reach (at least qualies). Whether the Federation can afford to send her to Melbourne in January is another matter (but how can they afford not to?). It'll be interesting to see her upcoming schedule.

Simone is a strange case. She's by far the most talented Danish girl since Caro, and she's beaten world class girls. But her 2012 season wasn't very good, and she hasn't played much in 2013. She won the Danish U16 title in 2013 though - beating both Emilie Francati and Emma Rønholt on her way to the title - so she still has a huge potential. And this is only her first year as a U16 player. She's also a U16 player in 2014. I still think she can go far if she has the motivation.

My two cents about some of the older juniors (U18): Melsted was once ranked #5 in Denmark and has played on the Fed Cup Team. Now she's ranked in the lower 30's! She has lost twice to Ida Krause (U14 player) in 2013. She's nowhere near her former form. She could come back though. She's obviously very talented, and the most succesful Danish junior ever (in terms of junior Championship titles).

Martine Ditlev is a curious case. She doesn't play much, and doesn't even have a Danish ranking (not a single Danish result during the last 12 months)! But she plays a few pro tournaments, and does win quite a few qualification matches. She also played for the Fed Cup team in May 2013 (and won her doubles match). Last week she played qualies at a 10K in Mexico. Martine won her two Q-matches, entered MD, and lost in R1. Martine is obviously willing to start a pro carrer, but I don't quite understand her choices. Maybe it would be better to play in Denmark too and test herself against players like Barbat, Grage, Jespersen etc.? Martine must be competetive against these players if she has any hopes of a pro career.

Julie Noe is quite good at the moment, and is probably the most likely of the U18 girls to start a real pro career. She seems to have the motivation. But it's also a question of funding. It's difficult for the Danish girls, because they often have to travel far to earn their points (as opposed to other nation's girls, that often have local tournaments giving them wildcards).

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

It seems like Emilie Francati is going to play Yucatan (MEX), Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl! It's not often we have Danish girls at these tournaments. She's in MD at Yucatan (G1) and has a good chance of making the MD at Eddie Herr (G1). She'll probably need to play qualies at Orange Bowl (GA). GL!

Simone Alipieva and Julie Noe are Orange Bowl ALTs at the moment, but I doubt they're going to North America.

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

I don't have the score yet but apparently Francati/Mihalikova won the doubles QF. They're up against Zadoinov (ESP)/Cabaj Awad (SWE) in the SF according to the OOP (scores haven't been updated at ITF since R1!).

Good ranking points for Emilie which means she will move further up the rankings and closer to grand slam participation in 2014! But there's another problem: She and Tereza are both supposed to sign in for Eddie Herr singles qualies in Florida tonight...
