I read that she is now certain of year end number 2 ranking. Not suprising, but still a very good achievement. And will be top seeded in Australia.

Her mandatory points are horrific.

But at least she'll have plenty of opportunities to gain points next season.

Top 20 Weeks Count for Active Player as of November 4, 2013.
http://www.tennisforum.com/showthrea...=432941&page=2

Now Vika Azarenka has been more weeks at Top 3, Top 5 and Top 20 than Caroline Wozniacki, but Miss Sunshine is still a Top 10 player and she is leading in two categories at the end of this season.

Re: Ranks

Before the Australian Open final the WTA live ranking look like this:
http://www.tennis4wta.com/Siralama/s1_50.html

1. Serena Williams 13000
2. Victoria Azarenka 6581
3. Na Li 5870 (before her final vs Dominika Cibulkova; if she wins, her ranking points will be 6570, 11 points less than Vika)
4. Agnieszka Radwanska 5750
5. Maria Sharapova 5416
6. Petra Kvitova 4745
7. Sara Errani 4440
8. Jelena Jankovic 4310
9. Angelique Kerber 4030
10. Simona Halep 3760
11. Caroline Wozniacki 3370
12. Ana Ivanovic 3160
13. Dominika Cibulkova 3056 (before her final vs Na Li; if she wins, her ranking points will be 3756, 4 points less than Simona)

Top 6 Players' ranking points to defend after Australian Open and before Roland Garros.

Serena Williams : Doha (620), Dubai (0), Indian Wells (0), Miami (1000), Charleston (470), Madrid (1000), Rome (900); Serena won't play in Dubai and Indian Wells.
Vika Azarenka: Doha (900), Dubai (0), Indian Wells (250), Miami (0), Madrid (80), Rome (620); Vika won't play in Dubai, but she should play in Monterrey (max 280 pts) after Miami.
Na Li : Doha (0), Dubai (0), Indian Wells (0), Miami (250), Stuttgart (320), Madrid (5), Rome (125); Na won't play in Dubai.
Aga Radwanska: Doha (395), Dubai (120), Indian Wells (140), Miami (450),Rome (1).
Maria Sharapova: Doha (395), Indian Wells (1000), Miami (700), Stuttgart (470), Madrid (700), Rome (225); Masha should play in Paris indoors, but she should be in Winter Olympics during Doha and Dubai.
Petra Kvitova: Paris (120), Doha (225), Dubai (470), Indian Wells (250), Miami (80), Stuttgart (120), Madrid (80), Rome (125).

I think it is very hard to predict what may happen after Australian Open, because the ranked players between #2 and #5 are so close to each other. Besides those recent results have clearly emphasized how unpredictable tennis can be. Serena and Maria have most points to defend, and Na least.

As we know Vika has also very little to defend after Doha and before Rome because of her injuries in 2013. If Vika find her game, she will have good chances to gain points in forthcoming tournaments after Doha. Na Li gets very close to her, if she wins the title in Melbourne, but nobody knows yet what Dominika Cibulkova will do in the final.

Re: Ranks

Looks like Li will catch up to Vika in the rankings very soon! , that being said Vika can gain a lot of points herself especially in IW, Miami, Madrid and Monterrey like you have stated, providing she has the motivation to win those.

I don't think Aga will but its likely Li will if she wins a few rounds in Doha and Vika fails to defend the title there.
