Re: Simona Halep (România)

Simona's schedule for next year should look like something like this:

2 Prep events for the AO (shortened to 1 if she is going far in the opening tournament)
Australian Open
Paris
Doha
Dubai
Indian Wells
Miami
Clay MM
Madrid
Rome
French Open
Prep event on grass
Wimbledon
Montreal
Cincinnati
(New Haven) - depending on how good her year was up to that
US Open
Wuhan
Beijing
Linz
Moscow

She might enter another MM to at least secure Mini YEC again.

Thus said, you never know how things turn out, but this is a top player's schedule with enough room for spontaneity if things might turn out differently.

Sounds good, Curcubeu. You would make a good couch manager . Now seriously, that's exactly the schedule of a top WTA player.

Re: Simona Halep (România)

Maybe a premier event before Montreal in order to skip New Haven and Stuttgart before Madrid.

Qualifying for the YEC would be great obviously, but I don't see this happening for her yet. My guess: Jankovic will be the last to qualify this year with Vinci & Sloane snatching those two alternates spots.
SF Tokyo, QF Beijing, Won Moscova mean 3745 points for Simona - more than enough for top 10

Having good runs in the next Premier level tournaments could get her to Istanbul, especially since there is a good chance that an extra spot will open up since Sharapova is unlikely to participate because of her injury. But I would be very happy with her competing in Sofia, I don't see how she can miss qualifying for Sofia if she keeps playing tennis the way she has in the past 4 months. Her next 2 tournaments are Tokyo and Beijing, I hate the fact that I will not be able to watch her play for almost 3 weeks but I think it's the right call from her part, she really needs to get some rest.

Re: Simona Halep (România)

I think Simona can't miss Sofia. Only 3 players - Vinci, Jankovic and Kirilenko that are in front of her in Rankings won a MM this year (Li, Aga and Sara will go to Istanbul). It's hard for me to believe that 3 different players placed in front of her will win at least 1 tournament in the last 7 and even if they would do, as the one with the most MMs won this year, I'm pretty sure Simona would get a Wild Card

Yep, the only way she could possibly miss Sofia is by qualifying to Istanbul

Agree, but if she does well in Madrid, I think it would be better if it would not play in Rome, so arrive rested at RG.
Same thing before USO... Final in Cinci , bye bye New Haven.

Rome isn't the last tournament before RG, so she can play it.

Indeed and then Rome is probably one of the most prestigious non-slam tournaments
And she should try to defend her points there

I know that Rome is not the last tournament before RG. But a week will not get her to fully recover, considering after 2-3 successful tours she needs at least.. two to three weeks of rest.

Admit that Rome is full of history and prestige, but in terms of points I think is equal to Madrid. You need to think of her health, she is neither a force of nature in terms of bodily and strength.

If Simona will finish in top 20 this year she have to commit to 2 Premier 5 tournaments and since Rome is she only one played on clay I am sure that Simona will choose it.

Re: Simona Halep (România)

It would actually be pretty stupid for a claycourt specialist to not play all the 3 big events on the dirt. Then rather ditch the pseudo clay in Madrid, if you would have to choose.

I also think a longer break in front of the French Open would do her more harm than good. She also doesn't possess the luxury to just plan her schedule in view of the slams. Let's not overdo it.

Just have a look at the younger up and coming players on the WTA tour. There are quite a lot of them establishing themselves in the Top 100 now, but really only a few will be able to trouble Simona on clay in the next couple of years as far as I can see.
