Well, perhaps she will. But selling Sugarpova and playing the USO are two seperate issues. You act as though it takes her an eternity to say that she's going to change her name and that her preparation for the USO will suffer as a result. I think that's absurd. I don't think it will make any difference at all if she goes into the tournament as Sharapova of Sugarpova. If she plays well enough she'll win and if she doesn't she won't. But this little bit of sugarpova nonsense won't have anything to do with it.

Did you even read what I said? I didn't compare her career up til this point to Kournikova's. I said she was in danger of being viewed as a Kournikova from now on. And like it or not, reports of that nature are already out there. And I fear that if she does lose early, the narrative that she's not focussed on the sport is going to gather steam (scary how much I've been agreeing with Mexicola lately), in part because of this self-inflicted wound. If this was just a standalone incident then I'd agree me and Mexicola's reactions were ott, but the fact is this the latest in a string of questionable judgements on her part within a few months, and that's worrying for someone who's usually so totally self-aware.

Whatever.

Re: Off Topic....Anything Goes vol5

I'm still failing to see what the questionable decisions are though.

She did not fire Hoggy, Hoggy stated himself in a recent interview that he's worked in the tennis realm for 34 years straight. It's time for him to focus on his personal life. His long time friend Mats also went on the record to say there was nothing more to the split than what was announced.

Hiring Connors wasn't as bad as people make out considering she'd worked with him briefly before and enjoyed the experience, and Yuri pushed for it too. (Just because it didn't work out doesn't mean it was unjustified).

The fact that she ended the partnership quickly is telling, she knew going in that it would take a while for them to click. She's been through this with Hoggy. The fact that she ended it so quickly indicates that something happened which showed it was never going to work. So it was best to end the partnership quickly.

Thank You.

Also like Ogioh said earlier, the whole 'SugarPova' publicity was planned AHEAD irregardless of her on court results. Even had she miraculously won Wimbledon and/or Cincinnati earlier (or the coaching fiasco happened or not), her team was still going to create buzz with the Sugarpova promo before USO.

US Open HIGHLY commercial and they know it. Why not manipulate to gain free publicity for her own premium brand?

And how is she gonna hurt her reputation for SugarPova publicity? This bitch has been promoting SugarPova every since it came out. Are we gonna say her interviews with Chelsea, CBS Morning Show (which are all done with the sole intention of Sugarpova promotion) are damaging her reputation as a tennis player?

Her career and brand are already firmly established! I don't give a damn how the media and the casual tennis fans are gonna perceive her as the Kournikova 2.0 at this point.

Doubt her tennis skills, doubt her tennis IQ, doubt her game but NEVER doubt her commitment to tennis!

But who cares? lol

I don't blame her for Connors hiring, the sooner you get rid of something which is not suitable the better. I am more worried whom she will chose next. I am not a pro in terms of this, but i think there are no really good coaches around now. Yuri is not the option. He can provide her mental support which is good for now, but no more.

There were no good coaches available when she and Joyce parted ways either.

Thank god there are people like you who still have some common sense around here

I really don't post a lot around here, and believe it or not, but that has nothing to do with GM, but with the weekly meltdowns that occur around here. It's 'so' predictable at this point, and not just the meltdowns, but also the backtracking that happens afterwards.
