Re: Julia Glushko

You mean Julia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%2...Ranking_method
She will get 65 points: 60 for qualifying + 5 for a R1 loss. She has no points to defend from the same week last year.
Shahar stands to lose 100 points from making R2 last year, and will also get 5 points from losing R1 to Radwanska.

Therefore if both lose R1 Julia will be about #135 (career high of course) and Shahar around #170.
If Julia upsets Torro-Flor that's 100 more points which means something like #110.

Haha yes, sorry for that. I meant Julia. Not sure why Shahar came out. OMG Shahar could be 170 after Roland Garros!?!? That is awful! I feel so bad for her!

Re: Julia Glushko

Two wins in Wimbledon qualies (over Olaru and Y.Sema), the latter a trademark one after losing the first set 1-6, send Julia for a match against veteran MEC in an attempt to make it 3 slam main draws out of the last 4.
Grass isn't the Italian's strongest surface (well, the same goes for Glushko herself) and it has to be said that Julia got a nice draw in these qualies.

These two wins will move Julia further up the rankings into the top 120, but she has half(!) of her ~550 ranking points to defend over the next two months up to and including the USO: 50K F, 25K SF, 50K title, 100K SF and finally USO R1.

(Or she could win her next two matches and then she probably won't have to play USO qualies at all )

Re: Julia Glushko

Disappointing lopsided (3&1) loss, but considering grass isn't exactly her best surface Q3 isn't that bad.
As said, now comes the hard part (pun intended)

In Haaretz newspaper they wrote that she is next in line for LL MD.

Re: Julia Glushko

If it's determined by the seeding of players who lost in the qualifying round, and so it seems, than Karatancheva is also in front of her and the chances of two more withdrawals are very slim.

Won the $50,000 Cooper Challenger today.

(2)Julia Glushko (ISR) def. (6)Gabriela Dabrowski (CAN) 6-1 6-3

Besides the $7315 award for winning she gets an automatic entry into the main draw of the 2013 US Open.

Re: Julia Glushko

Saved 6 MPs en route to her title - 3 in R2, 3 in SF Also three TBs she had to win.
As I've already mentioned in this thread, she owns Dabrowski - now 5-0 without losing a set and never more than 6 games in any of their matches.

Didn't realize that weak 50K was moved one week back so she now has W and F points from the same tournament counting towards her rankings, till next week when the task of defending all those points from last summer begins.
Not as close to the top 100 as she looks but I sure hope she'll make it.

Are you sure about that? Cutoff is next week and she has 50 points to defend from making last year's Waterloo's final. Without them she'd be about #120 and I doubt that's enough to get in.

Actually, there was a blurb on the Cooper Challenger site that implied an automatic entry to the US Open for the winner of the tourney. I think that I misread it and they were simply saying that Julia would hit the cutoff by July 15th if she won their tournament.

Re: Julia Glushko

Lost in the semi-finals at Yakima.

(8)Nicole Gibbs (USA) d. (3)Julia Glushko (ISR) 46 62 61

I had heard about her melt-downs but I had never seen one before. Had a couple of close calls go against her in the second set and she proceeded to blow up at the umpire and her game went downhill rapidly. Painful to watch. Nicole Gibbs looks like a solid player and I could see her rising in the rankings over time.

Re: Julia Glushko

With a win she would have defended her points from last year (RU at 50K Waterloo), but now she'll drop to #110 or so and I'm not sure what's the cut-off for the US Open MD.

Re: Julia Glushko

Thanks dos Santos.

I forgot that USO qualies have 16 qualifiers instead of the usual 12 (128 draw), and on top of that several players will use protected ranking.
So Julia would probably have had to beat Gibbs and win the final to make the MD outright, but that was definitely within her capabilities
Well, before she gets to the qualies there are still plenty of points to be defended elsewhere in the states.

Sure. She's not far off her friend Burdette who also put her career on hold for college, but it was clear that once she goes for a full-time tennis career she'll be top 100. Same for Gibbs, who played only 5 tournaments this year.
