Re: Maria and Thomas go seperate ways

I think she will stay in great shape, and continue to play well, but I think she is tired of the training schedule she has been keeping. I think she will hire someone like mike, who will just kind of be there. I believe it will work.

I agree. I recognize this from the Caro forum. When she struggles it's always the fault of Rory, because she's been watching golf or boxing, because she's selling underwear....in short because she hasn't got her mind on the job and isn't training enough. But take a look at her and you won't see a fitter player on the tour. But it's understandable that fans have their doubts because her career has really taken a nosedive. But Maria??? She's doing great. Ok, she lost early at Wimbledon, but who didn't?

Maybe Maria would be intrigued by having a big name hall-of-fame tennis player as her coach. But Cronin has never been right about anything, so I don't take that rumor seriously anyway.

No way she's hiring Martina. Two alphas always clash. Not a good combination.

Mexicola, I agree with you!!! Her behaviour is a bit.. um.. weird.. Sugarpova left and right, WAGing more than any time previously in her life, Dimitrov this and that, not deciding to play FC not this year, neither the start of next year.. IMO she is not 80% devoted to tennis but 60%. What are exactly her plans?? Was she satisfied with the one Slam after injury??
Feeling in the same way.
I know that she has her own off court life and she deserves for that because she's normal human being, but I think she has been more into another stuff lately. WAG-ing for Grigor, Sugarpova, photo shoots, red carpets event and we still have ESPY ahead of us which is on 17th July, barely few days before Stanford.
I see lack of her spirit and dedication to this sport. I know it's sounds silly because she still has very decent season but in my opinion at this moment she's not devoted for training too much.
Hopefully her new coach will bring for her some new energy and load her battery. Maybe she was just boring about her routine with Hoggy and need another, fresh addition to her team.

I'd completely forgotten about that, probably because he did nothing for Andy's game or career when he was coach. No slams and no victories over Federer. That doesn't speak well for either.

That is true. Roddick never was that talented a player, but he did have his moments. The whole purpose of bringing in Connors at that point in his career was to get him over the hump and get him past that Federer brick wall and win another major or two. And he couldn't do it. Maria certainly doesn't need that kind of coach. She has enough of her own experiences running into a Serena brick wall. Maria was 0-7 against Serena under Thomas and won one set.

Well, not Connors, but another former Roddick coach....

Apparently she's hired Larry Stefanki. Really not too sure about that.

Re: Maria and Thomas go seperate ways

I remember the time when Hoggy was appointed as her coach, and back then everyone was bashing him and Maria on why did she decide to switch coaches, but I always knew that Hoggy would be good for her game and he was, he really was.

He brought Maria's game to another level of physical fortitude and consistency and he developed Maria's clay court game . I am really in shock from this news and I just hope Maria knows what she's doing cause fire a coach with whom she has been so consistent on the terms of results and with whom she has had a great year so far its worrying.

And all this happened just before the USO series start . I hope that Hingis is appointed as her new coach to be honest or a female coach at that. Someone who really will push Maria to become better and who will add something to her game.

No way she can work well with a female coach - IMHO... Especially not Hingis. Ir any of the players she has played against.
