Re: Ranks

WTA current top 10 players after Wimbledon 2013:

1. Serena Williams 11895
2. Maria Sharapova 9235
3. Victoria Azarenka 8825
4. Agniezska Radwanska 5965
5. Na Li 5555
6. Sara Errani 5180
7. Marion Bartoli 4675
8. Petra Kvitova 4435
9. Angelique Kerber 3970
10, Caroline Wozniacki 3660

The ranking points that top 10 players need to defend from the last year (minus the Olympic tournament):

The current top 10 players tour schedule before the US Open 2013:

Williams - Bĺstad, Toronto, Cincinnati
Sharapova - Toronto, Cincinnati
Azarenka - Carlsbad, Toronto, Cincinnati.
Radwanska - Stanford, Carlsbad, Toronto, Cincinnati
Errani - Palermo, Toronto, Cincinnati, New Haven
Li - Toronto, Cincinnati
Bartoli - Toronto, Cincinnati.
Kvitova - Carlsbad, Toronto, Cincinnati, New Haven
Kerber - Toronto, Cincinnati, New Haven
Wozniacki - Toronto, Cincinnati, New Haven

As you can see Vika doesn't have any points to defend before the US Open, but she lose those points from the 2012 Olympics (340), like the other top players (Serena Williams 685, Maria Sharapova 470, Maria Kirilenko 260, etc). Before the US Open especially Petra Kvitova and Na Li seems to have lots of points to defend from the last year.

I suspect that there might be one or two new 10 top players after the US Open. There are some hungry players in top 20 at the moment, and some of the current top 10 players are notoriously inconsistent. Hopefully we don't have to worry about injuries in this season anymore, but enjoy good matches instead.

I think she'll pretty much finish the year as #3 and will probably stay there until after AO 2014. She'll get a great chance of moving higher at IW/Miami next year.

Re: Ranks

Vika can still finish the year inside the top 2 easily if she performs as she can in the final stretch of the season. She should be relatively fresh given her lack of match play this season. It's going to take big performances but if she plays well Vika can come up big at this time of the season.

She needs to have a good summer and defend a good chunk of her USO points, which is doable.
Has she release her fall schedule yet?

quite a bit of work. she did well last year with USO final, beijing winner, linz and year end semi. her opportunity is actually this month in north america before USO but then, also the same for maria and serena.

Re: Ranks

WTA Top 3 players ranking points and tour schedule before the US Open 2013.

1. Serena Williams : 11650 - 685 (Olympics 2012) - 470 (Stanford 2012) = 10495 + Bĺstad P280 + Toronto P900 + Cincinnati P900
2. Maria Sharapova : 9235 - 470 (Olympics 2012) = 8765 + Toronto P900 + Cincinnati P900
3. Victoria Azarenka : 8825 - 340 (Olympics 2012) = 8485 + Carlsbad P470 + Toronto P900 + Cincinnati P900

WTA International : W = 280 / F= 200 / SF = 130, etc.
WTA Premier : W= 470 / F= 320 / SF = 200 / QF = 120. etc.
WTA Premier 5 : W= 900 / F= 620 / SF= 395 / QF = 225 / R16 = 125, etc.

If Vika is planning to return at #2 before the US Open, she is only 280 points behind Maria Sharapova when those Olympic ranking points are reduced. After her second round loss to Michelle Larcher de Brito in Wimbledon and who might be her new coach after Thomas Högstedt, it is more difficult to predict what can be expected from Maria in those pre-US Open matches.

Fortunately Team Vika doesn't have that kind of problems.....

Re: Ranks

WTA Top 50 Weeks Count (as July 1, 2013)
http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=432901

Next Monday on 29 July, 2013 Vika have spent 97 weeks at Top 3, and she has beaten Caroline Wozniacki (95 weeks) during this July. But Caro stll have a lead in weeks at top 5 (Vika 121 vs Caro 128) and weeks at top 10 (Vika 207 vs Caro 210) at the end of July 2013. Hopefully we shall see Vika back as a world number one sometimes in the future, so that she could beat those 67 weeks at No.1 that Woz collected in 2010-2012.

If Martina Hingis returned from her retirement as an active singles player in autumn 2013, she would go to the top of this chart. Martina was WTA #1 for 209 weeks in 1997-2001. But let's see if those rumours are really true...

Re: Ranks

Maria Sharapova's loss to Sloane Stephens in Cincinnati means that Vika Azarenka will be the US Open #2 seed because men's and women's seeds will be based on the August 19 ATP World Tour and WTA world rankings. Whatever may happen in New Haven it doesn't affect to those seeds. http://www.usopen.org/en_US/players/seeds_list.html?promo=subnav

After today's win against Vania King Vika has secured 8805 ranking points, and Maria has 8765 ranking points after Cincinnati.
