I'm trying to be optimistic. Also I know this is irrelevant to the WTA. But if Murray doesn't win Wimbledon Ferrer might become N2 What kind of world would that be?

Whaaaaat? Well, even that is better deserved than Aga being number two Although I really hope Nole can capitalize here after that flop of a Garros for him

She did well at the US Open last year She pushed Azarenka much harder than in any of their other recent outdoor hardcourt matches.

Obviously the wind is an issue in NY, but the surface is a really good fit for her there (much better than grass), especially since they've slowed it down in recent years. If she gets lucky with the weather, I can see her doing well there.

Hopefully the injury isn't too severe and she manages to get practising again in a week or so. Is she scheduled to play Stanford? I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to play a smaller tournament like that to build some confidence again, rather than going straight into a Tier 1 where she'd be having to play good players from the first or second match.

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Reminiscences of Green Grass

I'm so surprised. I checked the score not at all expecting a loss.

2. You don't know what it feels like to watch your fave lose in person, until you do
3. Michelle didn't miss. Played beyond superb, and basically beat Masha at her own game
4. The slips shook Masha, she clung to her hip a lot and stretched it during points
5. Masha's ROS was, well, fucking awful. Michelle managed to bounce back 107mph bombs, Masha flopped on 87mph slice serves
6. When Michelle came outside of the court she literally signed every single thing thrust upon her, was lovely to see
7. I was sat opposite Cherry
8. I tried to shout as loud as I could. I did a lot of 'KAMAN MASHA/MARIA' and pre-mature kaman's before anyone else I also accidentally shouted out mid-point
9. The 4-3 game. WHAT A FUCKING WASTE. All the momentum - flopped
10. The final game, WOW. I was hysterical, Masha was fighting like a warrior. She was just so so unclutch today and was truly outplayed

All in all, devastated. But I'll be writing up my hilarious/positive moments from Wimbledon soon. Including seeing Na's husband, watching Grigor practice, getting Noles autograph and stanning for Errani/Vinci playing doubles
It really does suck and I'm sorry that you had to experience that.
I had the wonderful pleasure of watching Maria play Penetta at 2011 US Open. Probably the one of the most depressing and embarrassing experiences of my life. Seeing her last year was 10x better.

However, seeing so many top-seeded players fell like flies also make Maria's loss more comforting. So much fuckery in only few days
.
They really need to do something about the court. I don't think it's a coincidence that so many top seeds are out or have retired.

About the bolded, I feel like the same way. As wrong as it is, it actually makes me feel a lot better about her loss.

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Reminiscences of Green Grass

Well, with the 2 weeks off after the French final, only getting to play 2 matches at Wimbledon, and having nearly a full month off before Stanford, Maria should be, at the very least, fully rested for the hard court season.

Hopefully, she can recapture some of that form and confidence she had at Indian Wells and Miami. Please get those groundstrokes and return of serve functioning at a top 3 level again.

Nadal out, Federer out, Azarenka out, Sharapova out, Wozniacki out, Tsonga out, Isner out, Ivanovic out, Errani out, Jankovic out....Players slipping, sliding, falling and getting injured by the truckloads as though the're playing on ice instead of grass. In the more than 35 years that I've followed the game I've NEVER seen anything like it. If we keep going like this Kirsten Flipkens might end up winning the tournament. There MUST be something wrong with the court surface, no matter what the Wimbledon suits may have to say about it because this is not normal. Perhaps they have only given the appropriate shoes for playing on icegrass to Andy Murray and Laura Robson to improve their chances. I'm only kidding of course, but this is by far the most weird grand slam tournament that I can remember. It would in fact be an understatement of massive proportions to call it bizarre.

A much needed post from you Chrissiefan
(and I agree, people ANS Wimbledon officers still deny but 7 retirements and all those falls are not normal)

True. I mean its one thing for Sharapova to lose while playing horrible tennis (which she was btw) and its another thing having all these big names going out in just the 3rd day of the tournament. I mean imagine if Serena loses now or even Djockovic goes out. That would be hilarious .
