Re: Nobody has ever won all "Big 3" RG lead-ups in the same year.

if you want to find players that won CHarleston and Roland Garros in the same year you have to go back a decade since it was last done.

Justine did it in 2003

I am sure Capriati did it in 2001.

the Tier was not always important.

San Diego was a Tier II in early 2000s yet often had majority of top 10 playing. It often had fields stronger than some of the Tier I events.

But Hilton Head/Charleston the majority of the time had a better field than Hamburg.

Re: Nobody has ever won all "Big 3" RG lead-ups in the same year.

Seles won Berlin, Rome and RG in the same year which would appear to be the most impressive sequence pre-roadmap considering they are Tier I, Tier I, GS all on red clay.

In Seles' case, the finals were Graf, Navratilova, Graf.

Re: Nobody has ever won all "Big 3" RG lead-ups in the same year.

If she does win all 3 of the biggest clay tournaments and RG then she'd have the Clay Slam (like Rafa in 2010 with Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome, and the French)

Charleston was a top tier tournament. look at it's past winners, all hall of famers, bar a few flukes.

Re: Nobody has ever won all "Big 3" RG lead-ups in the same year.

Charleston is no longer a big 3 clay tournament. I would say Stuttgart is more prestigious now. In fact, Stuttgart (formerly Filderstadt and indoors) has always fielded ridiculously loaded draws for a Tier 2/Premier tournament. Maybe the Porsche helps.

Why bring this BFTP style inane discussion into GM?

.

Relevance to the current claycourt season?

Williams does it - hats off. The WTA has officially turned into a room full of flies and a large, angry woman with a fly-swatter.

Re: Nobody has ever won all "Big 3" RG lead-ups in the same year.

Any field with Serena not in it is a MUG field as per her clear superiority over the rest of the peasantry, therefore Charleston is more relevant. Stop trying to make Stuttgart happen.

You're looking mighty small yet sounding really angry there
