IKR . I thought it was out I expected the umpire to come down but she didn't even do that . And the thing was that she had the opened court too .

Kanepi next , RG rematch from last year. Maria should take it .

Re: MADRID 2013 Mission: Snatch That #500!!!

The main thing to watch in the next two matches is not whether Maria wins, but how well her serves hold up. I expect Maria to beat Serena in two routine sets if her serves hold up.

Kanepi should provide a solid test, but I expect Maria to win. Maria played absolutely beautiful tennis in their FO QF last year

Get that #499 and then #500 in the SF

Re: MADRID 2013 Mission: Snatch That #500!!!

I'm probably getting ahead of myself, but from what I've seen in this clay season so far, I'd be shocked if Maria isn't playing Serena in the Roland Garros final, never mind Madrid. Other than and in-form Li Na, who's capable of defeating either one of them in a French Open setting? Yes, players like Ivanovic or Kerber or Errani and a few others can definitely push Maria to tough 3-setters and put a scare in her. But challenging and beating are two completely different things and I just don't see the other players having the mental fortitude to overcome what Serena and Maria are going to relentlessly throw at them on this surface. I haven't been overly impressed with anyone.

I know the prospect of having to see Maria play Serena over and over and over isn't a comfortable feeling. But it looks like that's the reality of the WTA right now. Will someone else step up over this next month? Strange and unexpected things happen all the time in sports....

Honestly, I want these Maria/Serena matches over and over again because it means she'll have more chances to finally defeat her. At this point with her dreadful record, it could be 20-2 and I'll still be happier than I've ever been as a Maria fan when she makes it 20-3 . So bring on Maria-Serena matches, especially on clay where she has her best chances. If she can sneak in a win here or in Rome, she'll have SO much more confidence should they meet at RG or Wimbledon

What are you on?
Cause I'd like some of what you're having

Maria's next match should be pretty routine if she plays well.

Yes you are. It's the WTA and anything, literally anything can happen. Serena will have to play her best (mental) game if she wants to play the final which she hasn't done since 2002. And Maria is not a guaranteed finalist either. It's been 6/7 years since she last reached 3 GS Semifinals in a row. Obviously, there is a great chance it will happen at the French, but she will be under a lot of pressure defending her title and needs to play her best tennis as well.

The FO has been by far the weakest GS in the womens game since 2008, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if we had a Stosur-Errani final

from the bits I've watched, Williams is playing her usual servebotting game with minimum movement on the surface. It's just so far she hasn't faced a single even decent opponent. I really doubt this game can take her far in Paris, where altitude is not gonna help her to get cheap points on serve

Serena is not a servebot. She has immense mental strength, great groundstrokes and a lot of variety. If serve is all it takes why haven't Roddick or Karlovic won 15 Slams
