Sorry, I personally don't know
My guess would be she's of former U.S.S.R descent, maybe Kazakhstan?

But I'm only guessing

Re: Deniz Khazaniuk

Deniz hasn't been doing too well so far this year.
This week, in a weak 25K in Brazil, she's been unfortunate to get the top seed (#250 in the world) as the highest unseeded player (ranked 9th out of 32) in the draw!
Yet she lead by a set and lost

Where does Khazaniuk's CH comes from, 1 point from 25K qualies?
She has done next to nothing this year (other than that interview ) and will be out of the top-600 in no time.
I thought she was going to play a full schedule like Julia (or at least Keren).

She's got 8 points from a 25k in Bukhara from the middle of June.
all the rest is as you said 1 point after the other so far this year.

I guess other players lost more points than she gained

Re: Deniz Khazaniuk

Nice title run after a slow first half of the year.
It's always good to see our players on the winning side of a very close important match

This will move her to a career high of about #415, but next month she'll have 30 points to defend from a W-SF-W sequence in Greek 10Ks from last September.

Re: Deniz Khazaniuk

After writing an apology letter, Deniz was only reprimanded for the interview she gave in February,
and was not kicked out of the fedcup team as some expected.
But according to this report it's very likely she will not me summoned again for the February 2013 competition in part because the other players have made clear they are not interested she'd be part of the team. I imagine the fact that Patiuk is feeling better will also have en effect.

Re: Deniz Khazaniuk

Interesting confrontation between Peer and Khazaniuk at the Israeli Tennis Championship as reported in Haaretz today:

Shahar Peer refused to shake the hand of her opponent, Deniz Khazaniuk, after defeating her rival 6-0, 6-1 at the women's singles semifinals of the Israel Open in Ramat Hasharon.

"You're an embarrassment to the State of Israel," Peer told the 17-year-old. According to several reports, Peer also made a sign to Khazaniuk to be quiet.

The two have been at odds since Khazaniuk granted an interview to Maariv newspaper earlier this year, in which she levied harsh criticism against Peer and the rest of her teammates on the Fed Cup national squad.

"She's one big fake," Israel's fourth-highest rated women's tennis player said at the time about the country's biggest tennis star. Khazaniuk rated Peer low on a personal level and said she was just like fellow team member Julia Glushko.

"They only belittled me and criticized me all the time," she said. "They humiliated me. That is not the way a national team should be handled. It's the way you do things in the neighborhood," added Khazaniuk in the wake of Israel's Fed Cup loss to Portugal.

Peer had not responded publicly to Khazaniuk until yesterday. "I expected this, and I'm not angry," said Khazaniuk.

Re: Deniz Khazaniuk

It would have been much classier of Peer to let the 6-0 6-1 do the talking for her.

Original confrontation thread: http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=453411

This expected beatdown aside (and I agree with Shir re. Shahar's post-game response), Khazaniuk has not made any progress this year.
