Wickmayer is more than vulnerable these days and pretty much loses every match against a defensively skilled opponent. Monica has definitely a shot in this meeting. The courts suit her game style perfectly.

Yeah, I'm definitely confident about this match. Wickmayer isn't in a good way and Monica has been solid all year, and often at her best. Monica should win this and I even think she could go further too.
Obviously I am said about Kimiko pulling out injured, I hope she is fit to continue in the doubles, but now I can get 100% behind Monica for the rest of the tournament as usual and I want and expect to see a good week from her.
I got it, I'm just answering a lot of mails and lost plot. I'm yet to look through it, but I will answer.
Another 1.5 hours. Oh...nearly Australian like conditions. I don't know if I can take it for that long. I should have checked the schedule earlier, than I would have probably turned my alarm clock, now it's too late.
I'm watching re-runs of SFU, so I'll probably be still awake when she plays. Just checked some betting stats and Monica is the favorite in this one with 63%. I don't usually go for these things, but I'm surprised Wickmayer's ratio is so low.
Well, we'll see... in the morning
It wouldn't be the first time I'm passing my nights like this. Every January during AO is a struggle for me, and then the rain breaks and the match before the one you want to see taking 3 hours etc.
I know when Alexandra played Sharapova in Miami QF a couple of years ago in the night session, in a match that lasted 4 hours. We know how it ended and I seriously never felt more crushed in my life than during the moment I had to close my stream completely tired and drained from what I've seen.
I know. That match against Sharapova and another one against Zvonareva, from AO 12. Both equally long and dramatic, filled with tiebreaks and break points. I watched them too and had the same feeling in the end. Told myself I wasn't gonna stay up so late for girls matches, but broke that promise last year when Begu played Wozniacki at tue US Open. Luckily for me, it was worth it
Wasn't Monica's best match. She made quite a few more errors than I expect her to make. And for most of the match, especially in the 2nd set she seemed to lack her usual inspiration. Towards the very end Monica's game did pick up though, the game she she broke to take a 5-1 lead in the final set was particularly nice.
But Yanina was very much out of sorts and she gifted Monica a lot of errors, and by the third set they were coming in bunches. Yanina did have a lot of trouble with Monica's slice today and Monica must have picked up at least 25 errors from Yanina with that shot alone.
Still, not a great match and Monica will need to be more consistent in the quarters.
