Re: The Klara "Kookie" Zakopalova Cheering Thread

Nice going, Klara! I still recall her frustration in 08 Estoril, semifinals, when Makiri pulled a medical time-out when down , and then rallied to beat cold and stiff Kookie in three. This win makes part of it erased .

Opponent will be Masha. She's 1-4 against her, including this year in Doha. Hasn't beaten her in 10 years.

Re: The Klara "Kookie" Zakopalova Cheering Thread

Fell 2 & 2.

The last game was a battle for Pova. I think at least 6 mps missed Klara had at least a couple of break back points, but it was not to be. Now 1-5 against her.

Re: The Klara "Kookie" Zakopalova Cheering Thread

Katowice:

(8)Robson v Dominguez Lino
Beck v (wc)Domachowska
Rybarikova v Cepelova
Kr.Pliskova v (3)Zakopalova

Love Kris, but Klara got a virtual bye in the first round. Great draw. Has the opportunity to crack the Top 20 here. She's already at her CHR of 21.

Kookie wins 7-6(2) 6-2 over Kris not a bad start

Tougher than I thought it would be, but still a win!

Also, now provisionally in the Top 20 for the first time, so congrats to her!

Finally she'll get into the top 20 this week after all those near misses, #19 with the win today I think.

Re: The Klara "Kookie" Zakopalova Cheering Thread

Klara's blogging from Cat On Ice if anyone's interested:

Monday, April 8, 2013
Hi everyone! It's my first time doing the blog for the WTA website and I'm looking forward to it. When I was asked to do it I said of course - so hopefully you will all enjoy it this week too.

I've been really satisfied with my performances recently. I did very well in Indian Wells and Miami, beating two players in the Top 20 and making the fourth round at both tournaments, which was really nice, and I'm really looking forward to playing those tournaments in the US again next year.

After coming back from Miami I had a few days off, which I spent with my family and our three dogs. It was nice to have some time off and just relax. After that I started to practice slowly on clay courts and worked on my clay court movement, which is obviously a lot different than on hardcourts!

From there I came to Katowice on Saturday afternoon by car with my mother. I was driving the whole time, but my mother was really nervous about the way I drove :-) I always enjoy driving my car, but sometimes I'm driving quite fast, which is not so good, I know :-) Anyway, I think Katowice is a really nice city. It's really historic and romantic - quite similar to Prague, which of course I love :-)
When I found out that Katowice was going to be played on synthetic clay I was a little bit worried, because I heard that can be really slippery, but once I started hitting on it I was surprised with the quality of the court. You cannot tell the difference between the synthetic clay and regular clay, and now that I have played my first match of the tournament on it, I can say this court is really perfect.

Speaking of my first match, it was a very tough one against Kristyna Pliskova. She was serving very well in the first set, so I had really big pressure on my serve, too, but finally I managed to win the first set in a tie-break, which gave me a lot of confidence, and I was able to close the match out in straight sets. It's always hard to win your first match of a tournament, especially if it's your first match of the year on clay courts or a new surface, but I'm really looking forward to the next one now.

Thanks for reading and I will be back tomorrow!

Have a good night :-)

Klara

Re: The Klara "Kookie" Zakopalova Cheering Thread

Klara plays qualifier Camerin next round. Maria Elena is low ranked now, but their rivalry goes back 12 years, and their h2h is even 2-all. Maria Elena won their last match, in 2009, but Klara won their last claycourt match, back in 2004.

Klara's Katowice Blog: Tuesday

Fresh off a doubles win with good friend Renata Voracova, Klara Zakopalova brings us her latest blog. Why does she like Poland so much? Which one's Tobi and which one's Alf? Read on...

Published April 09, 2013 12:00

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

Hi guys!

I'm playing doubles this week as well, with Renata Voracova, and we just had a very tough match. I don't feel like I played well but I was lucky that doubles is about the team, so thanks to Renata we won in the super tie-break :-) But all the credit to our opponents, they played really well.

I'm looking forward to the next one!

I've known my doubles partner Renata since we were 12 years old, so I can definitely say we know each other very well. She is a very nice girl. We have a lot of fun whenever we're together, and I always enjoy my time with her on and off of the court, especially when she starts to speak with a Moravian accent - I start to get crazy, we have so much fun with it, I almost need a dictionary :-)))

Yesterday in my blog I mentioned my dogs and I've had a few people ask me about them, so let me introduce you to them! I have two Bolognese dogs, one black and one white, and one Yorkshire Terrier. The white Bolognese is Tobi, the black Bolognese is Alf, and the Yorkshire Terrier is Rex. I love dogs so much. I cannot imagine living without dogs. I've always had at least one my whole life so they are really a part of my life. As I'm travelling a lot, my parents take care of Rex and Tobi, and my husband has Alf at our house. Alf is the boss of our family - he sleeps in our bed and since he was a puppy he always sleeps on my pillow, so I've gotten used to sleeping without a pillow at all :-)

Another thing I mentioned yesterday was that I drove here - I've actually played many tournaments in Poland in my career because it's so close from the Czech Republic and I can go by car :-) I have so many nice memories from tournaments in Poland. I played two finals at the WTA tournament in Sopot and I won a small one here as well, so I'm always looking forward to playing in Poland. And as I also said, this country's many historic cities remind me of my country, and the language is similar.

Renata and I will go and do some stretching now and then go back to the hotel, have dinner together with her coach Libor and my mother, and then it's hockey time for us :-) We will watch the Czech hockey championship final on our computers - it's going to be a big fight between us :-)

I'm really looking forward to the rest of the tournament and the clay court season in general - clay is actually my favorite surface because I grew up on it. When we were small in Prague we always practiced on clay, even indoors too, so I'm used to playing on this surface since I was very small.

Talk to you again tomorrow!

Klara
