Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

ITF Oslo Open, Grade 4, Norway

2R
Andrea Raaholdt (NOR) d. (3) Simone Alipieva (DEN) 63 16 63
Sofia Segerfors (SWE) d. (5) Ulrikke Høyer (DEN) 63 62
(7) Emma Rønholt (DEN) d. Stina Magnusson (SWE) 64 61

Emma's QF opponent is Margaux Deagostini (SUI), who defeated Emma 63 63 in the Copenhagen SF last week. GL Emma!

Simone/Ulrikke have a bye to the doubles QF while Emma and her Swedish partner had to give a walkover in doubles R1 because the Swedish girl got injured in her singles match.

ITF Oslo Open, Grade 4, Norway

QF

Doubles QF
(2)Alipieva (DEN)/Høyer (DEN) d. Jarlskog (SWE)/Rosenquist (SWE) 76(5) 62

I don't want to put too much emphasis on ITF ranking point but Emma Rønholt has earned 15 more points this week which will help her to get into main draws more often. Well done. GL to Alipieva/Høyer in the doubles SF.

I don't have the score yet but the Danish Tennis Association reports that the Danish girls won the title. Great! The 2nd doubles title of 2013 for Alipieva/Høyer.

(2)Emilie Francati (DEN) d. (6) Andrea Raaholdt (NOR) 61 76

Well done by the two Gentofte girls! Emma was 0-2 against Melanie Stokke before today's match. Emilie's opponent in the SF is Tereza Mihailikova (SVK), who was one of the best U14 players in the world in 2012 (I particularly remember Mihailikova from a very exciting doubles match with Alipieva a year ago). That'll be interesting. GL!

Doubles SF
(2) Francati (DEN)/Rønholt (DEN) d. (4)Reimchen (GER)/Victorsson(SWE) 61 57 10-6

Lots of doubles success so far in 2013 for The Danish girls. Alipieva/Høyer has won two ITF titles, and Francati/Rønholt one (plus a final tomorrow)! GL!

Wow! First Danish ITF junior title since 2011 when Julie Noe beat Emilie Francati in the final of a Swedish tournament. Well done by the two friends and teammates from Gentofte!

Wonder what happened?

Congratulations! I'm not surprised that Francati won but I'm surprised by the score. Good week for both girls though. And they will climb to new career best on the ITF rankings. Well done. It'll be interesting to see what they can do at the Danish championships next week...

Emma Rønholt (left) and Emilie Francati after their final and Emilie's title at IFT Stabekk, Norway, a week ago:

The two 15 year olds will be training with the Fed Cup Team until Denmark's next match in April (which doesn't mean that they'll be on the team).

Re: The Danes are coming - Danish juniors thread

Danish Junior Championships, indoor, 23 March to 31 March 2013

Preview

U18
The U18 title seems quite deflated this year because the three best U18 girls are missing: Julie Noe, Cecilie Melsted and Martine Ditlev. Ulrikke Høyer is seeded 1 and may win her first junior championship singles title ever (she has won at least 8 doubles and mixed Danish Championship titles including a very fine 18+ doubles title). Ulrikke should be in a league of her own now that the other three are missing. I don't think she's ever lost a singles match to any other girl in the draw - at least not within the last couple of years - so she should be a huge favourite although singles has never been her best event.

U16
There's much more at stake among the U16 girls where three of Denmark's most talented girls are playing: Emma Rønholt, Emilie Francati and Simone Alipieva. Emma is seeded 1 but Emilie, recent ITF winner in Norway, is probably the big favourite to win the U16 title. She was an 18+ Danish Championship finalist already two years ago when she at the age of 14 lost to Mai Grage! Simone and Emma are in the same half, so we could see an interesting SF. Frederikke Svarre is seeded 3 but is (still) not on the same level as the other three girls.

U14
Helena Steenberg was outstanding two years ago when she won both the indoors and outdoors U12 Championships but she doesn't seem to be in the same kind of form anymore. Helena Francati - the younger Francati sister - likewise won both U12 titles in 2013 but still seems a bit below the best U14 girls now that she has moved up from U12. Sofie Bjerringgaard (seeded 1) and Ida Krause (seeded 2) are the ones in best form at the moment.

U12
It'll be interesting to see Agnes Ditlev (Martine's sister) at the Championships. She's still only 10 years old, and very short and tiny, but apparently extremely talented. She's already been a runner up at several of the best U12 tournaments in Denmark (Category 1). She's probably not going to reach the final rounds at the Championships, as I suspect she'll be overpowered by some of the other girls who seems to be 6 or 8 inches taller. But I'm curious to see her play.
