She was already the Swiss National champion in 1939, so if she really left Czechoslovakia, it happened earlier. There was some Czech player Stutz (or Stutzova) in the late 30-ies, maybe her last name was later modified to be easier for Swiss people to prounounce ? Could her Czechoslovakian nationality in 1949 French championships be like an echo of her past ? Or someone from the press who remembered that "Stutz" thought she was the same player as Edith Sutz ?

Your facts are correct LKK. Given the early date of her being Swiss #1 (1939) I must be wrong.
I can explain my error though. John Barrett's "Official History of Wimbledon" had her as Czech in his draws. So does the Roland Garros site draws from a few years back.
But I notice the British Lawn Tennis magazine has her as "Swiss" for the same year.
Nonetheless I will double check my 1949 sources. Helena Straubeova Matous did defect that year, so perhaps i confused them in my head when reading the draws and seeing Czech/Swiss.
I will root around to see if I can find more, but this is probably an error on Barrett's part that the French "copied". Years ago I had a nice little chat with the Wimbledon librarian Alan Lane, who informed me that the French had no clue what their draws had been and came to Wimbledon for help!

Re: The Official Married Names Thread
ADAMSON, "MILLIE" (nee Naomi Kathleen Adamson)
United Kingdom (England)
Born 1902 in Dublin, Ireland
Alive when widowed in 1949
Married Clarence Aaron "Tod" Robbins (1888–1949) on 16 Jaunary 1934 in Villefranche, France
Note we can safely remove Mr Robbins as the first husband of Nelly Adamson. A passenger list from an 1946 air flight confirms date of birth, marriage to Robbins, and residence in France.

Thanks Jimbo. I confess I am a little sad that Nelly didn't run off at 17-but at least we know the truth.

MARGRIT SCHULTZE
Born 12 December 1939
A problem: Helga and Margrit are sisters, but there are 2 possibilities:
one date of birth is wrong, or they have in common only the father...
The ITF confirms the above DOB.

Maybe if someone knows the German can find info in this book written by Helga:
