Re: Mirjana's spring 2013 campaign
You know Miki just shook her head and laughed the minute she first saw that draw, and probably made a wisecrack like "Woe to me" or something like that. She's a girl with a sense of humor.
This can be viewed a few different ways, I guess. She isn't having luck against the Burdettes and Cepelovas of the world, so why not try her hand against a legend.
Also, one of the reasons Mirjana has been working so hard to make this career fly on tour is for chances like this -- to play the big girls. Not in the first round, I realize, but she hasn't played a Williams since her comeback in 07, so I'm glad she'll get a chance to take the court against one of them again. Could be her last chance, and it's something she will want to remember.
I highly doubt we'll see a win, but nothing is impossible, I suppose. And we will get to see the livestream. Hope the real Miki shows up.
As for dubs ... Czink may have promised to play with Niculescu beforehand. I hope they can make it a friendly, entertaining contest.
GL to Mirjana and her long-suffering admirers.

Great post.
Obviously an in form Venus would win comfortably but I'm hoping the Venus from Wimbledon 2012 turns up and with her being rusty you just never know. 12 months ago she struggled past Wozniak in a final set tie break.

Re: Mirjana's spring 2013 campaign
WHY didn't she play Acapulco instead of this? The draw there is ridiculously weak (even Sesil is handing out main draw bagels) and it is just a short flight to the SoCal desert for Indian Wells after the event.
In Florianopolis, Mirjana has to wait around for days (likely with little practice, due to the rain) only to get clobbered by Venus Williams, most likely.
Then it's a helter-skelter 12-15 hour game of airplane-hopscotch to get to Indian Wells, with a 5-hour time difference.
Oh, poor Mirjana :-). She can't even go to the beach or have a cocktail at the cabana today.

Re: Mirjana's spring 2013 campaign
She must have wanted to not play on clay yet is probably why she didn't play Acapulco. I think you're right in that she could get farther there, and more points. But, I am still excited to see her play V. Williams. I think she will be motivated to play Williams and it should be interesting. Miki's form hasn't been too bad this year.
