It might be true. But in my opinion even when playing against Serena I think every player has the chance of winning. Its all in their minds whether they believe it or not. Yesterdays match is prime example. Before the match everybody said Kvitova has no chance, she is out of sorts etc. At this level if somebody believes they have 0 chance against her opponent its of no use to enter the court.

I think Maria needs to believe that when Kvitova is able to make a competitive match like yesterdays why cant she, because she is more consistent with results the past year and half than Kvitova(No offence towards her, I like her play more after yesterdays match ). If she can believe in that who knows she can beat Serena and we know serena wont accept defeat easily and we are in for a treat

i think all players in WTA have no chances vs Serena in her Olympics form or vs Serena in YEC Final... it was flawless performance ....

but Serena gave plenty of chances for her opponents at USO, YEC round robin, Wimbledon, Such players as Vika and Masha should try to step up when they feel that Serena is not at her best, we'll see in Doha if any of these two at least try to beat Serena....

Serena's tactics vs these 2 is usually 1) serve bombs 2) play as agressive on return as possible. She doesn't care if she makes 4 errors ina row in the receiving game, she just continues bashing ROS till she starts touching the lines early or later in the set. When it happens = she breaks and set is in her pocket.....

Of course Maria believes in her chances, it's not Maria's type to hope for another player to take down Serena for her. It will be tough and she knows it.

Yes you are right. But one thing I observed especially in Maria's matches against Serena is she is too worried about breaking of Serena's serve rather than holding her owns. If she concentrates on her serve and try to win her every service game even if every one goes for Deuce or break point she might get a chance or two to break Serena's, afterall its 6 games means 6 chances.Even if she cant able to break anyway there is tiebreak. I think that is the strategy Radwanska applied from second set onwards in 2012 wimbledon final and Vika against Serena every time she faces her and to some extent Maria at YEC.

I just think Masha's biggest handicap vs Rena is her reaction time. Usually she's the one to get the ROS deep, to paint the lines and blast winners. Most of their matches Masha has hit something crazy like 6 winners, whereas in regular draws she can hit 20+. But she simply gets stuck when Rena whacks her serves left, right and centre. And that puts pressure on her serve, which in tail produces a shaky throw and an instantly weak serve. It's the same pattern we've seen in every match. The only time Masha actually played like a controlled aggressor was in the Wimbledon 2010 meeting where she concentrated on holding her serve and it took her to a tb and a sp. So
