Re: Going East for Success (February Thread)

Aga just pushes and junkballs all match VS Ana these days and it's enough to win. She doesn't even have to get out of first gear most annoyingly .

It's like she thinks before the match "get a few balls back and she'll miss. Piece of cake".

Just shows how much Ana is not feared by any players anymore .

Re: Going East for Success (February Thread)

I barely survived. She had so many chances in second set, but used nothing. I'll be off till Dubai. When you are Ana's fan, it simply takes much more energy than being fan of someone else. Still, never give up.

Re: Going East for Success (February Thread)

in all honesty she played as good as anyone can expect her in the second set.Save for the ridiculous 6-5 game ofcourse.I was surprised for once.No comments for the first but the wind was ridiculous and maybe it took her some time to adjust to it.

Re: Going East for Success (February Thread)

I'm very happy with what I see from Ana after 6-1 2-1 40-0*.

She fight back against elite opponent and was so close to wins set, despite she choke so badly when is finally in position to serve for that set.

This is good Doha result for Ana, and she not only reach at day-to-day event 3rd round but at end also have good resistance vs TOP5. But she is very lucky with draw here - not because names of hers opponents but because fact that she have day pause after 1st match and played just one set in 2nd, so hers casual day-to-day schedule fitness problems are non-factor today.

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

Re: Going East for Success (February Thread)

I'm actually not that disappointed - it's a much better score line than what I feared, what with the wind in Doha and all that. Never liked this tournament. She played much better in second set too despite the choking; hitting through the ball with some conviction instead of trying to "put more spin" as she likes to say and make a gazillion errors anyway.

Onwards to Dubai, hope she does better there.

5-8 seeds in Dubai will be Errani, Petra, Sam and Woz, unless someone withdraws. My vote goes to Errani.

Re: Going East for Success (February Thread)

Didn't watch it, but expected it. Aga is too smart for Ana, Ana defeating her would mean a different Ana. I'm not even suprised by that second set chance, Ana's improving a lot, but still has to fix her mind. If she's healthy in Dubai, she may reach a QF again, or even more, God knows.

Re: Going East for Success (February Thread)

She played really well in second set, she should have won it, but again, in the crucial moments she made two errors and than the TB came. Ana's game is really improving day by day, that's for sure... We'll see what's gonna happen in Dubai, with this game she can go deep. At least we are sure there will be no match vs top 4 before semis.

Re: Going East for Success (February Thread)

The first set was disgusting. I think she made like 21 errors in 7 games which was just unacceptable. That's like 3 a game, and the fact Aga won 21 of her 31 points in the 1st off Ana errors shows you how bad it was. She didn't compete, it was a gutless show

But the second set, it was such a pleasant surprise. I mean, it would have been easy for her to just give up with the win and continue. But she really dug in. I was so proud of her because I just didn't expect that kind of reaction. She competed so well, you could see the fire, total opposite from the 1st. Especially the way she handled the wind all of a sudden and the way she stayed strong during those break points That game at 6-5 in the second set was an absolute disaster though Just undid all the good work she had put in for the whole set in one game. The tiebreak wasn't bad but Aga really stepped it up and showed why she's ranked where she is. Also, how bad was Ana's finishing today. Those volleys

Sadly, it's the same result Yet another loss. If she had won that second set, it would have done wonders for her. At least it would have been a step in the right direction. I can't help but be a little encouraged with that second set of course. In fact, in a strange way I am. You know, I hope she can pull some confidence out of the way she competed and build. Because that's the problem. She just doesn't believe in herself enough when she faces these top players. That game at 6-5 was a prime example. Like I've said, it's not like she's an up and comer and there's plenty of time. I'm happy she's living up to her seeding these days but she's a total non-factor to the top player these days. She can't even win sets off them. It's just sad

You "coud see the fire" because she put a bit more of physical and mental energy in her game. She can do that for maybe one set against the top players. And that's enough for her to balance a set against them. But not enough to win the decisive moments. She would need much more than that extra bit.
She was once an energetic player. But she lost it and she is not going anywere if she doesn't get it back.
But she is too brainless offcourt too, so she can't even find that.

How many in a row has she lost to aga now? 5 or 6?

I'm guessing she didn't serve as well either?
