2004, sir. Azarenka fans can't even get the numbers right

Looks like Sharapova has a chance, let's see if she can do it or if she'll falter

Re: Is Sharapova due for a Serena win?

Serena beats Serena ...Serena has to play like crap & Maria will have to play the perfect match - hit winners like Petra, cut down on DFs, make fewer than 10 UEs & make a high % of 1st serves ...otherwise Serena will win on one leg and with all that flu

Re: Is Sharapova due for a Serena win?

Maria Sharapova hasn't changed her game in ten years. The whole tour knows how to beat her, just most of them aren't physically capable of doing those things. But for a physical specimen like Sharapova to not improve AT ALL, in TEN YEARS, is both a tribute, and an indictment. Serena had won six slams before we had to admit 'Wild Thing' was dead.

She's so far from the player who hit every ball as flat and as hard as she could. How far has Sharapova's game come the 2004 Wimbledon final? Half an inch? Four slams is no joke, but when the player you're trying to catch evolves, and you don't, infantry vs infantry becomes infantry vs drone strike.

Like the other poster said I think her best shot at beating Williams would be at Rome or Roland Garros. But she'll have to beat a fully engaged Serena because Serena hasn't been off or unmotivated against Maria in almost a decade
Hey!! It's still only about 8.5 years

I agree, this is a really good chance for Sharapova (on paper).

Serena is still nursing some injuries, she's under the weather, and she just played a tough match the day before. If Sharapova is the competitor that people believe she is then she'd be aware that her chances are higher than normal and will go in really motivated (not intimidated).

I'm looking forward to the match, though! Hopefully it's a good one.

Re: Is Sharapova due for a Serena win?

I love Serena but Pova is way overdue...it won't happen in a Slam but it will happen...and the tennis media will act like it is a whole "changing of the guard" which will then make Serena go back to kicking ass on the regular.

Serena always had more trouble with players with a different style of play, but only bashing the ball it's very difficult to defeat her

Re: Is Sharapova due for a Serena win?

If Maria couldn't make it competitive vs Serena in Stanford 2011, I'm pretty sure she will never beat her again.

The ONLY scenario of Maria 'beating' Serena is if Serena gives a walkover before the match starts, otherwise, no chance.

They have similar playing styles, but Serena does everything better.

Oh jeez . Sharapova of 2004 never could have won Roland Garros, and it took her more than half an inch to change that.
