Commons backs Gay Marriage
It's yet to have passed the House of Lords + the Queen. But in the last 30 minutes the House of Commons has backed the legalisation of equal marriage in the UK

Re: Commons backs Gay Marriage
It's basically a done deal now, the most the House of Lords can do is delay it for a year.

Re: Commons backs Gay Marriage
Bloody fantastic news.
Loathe as I am to shower praise on Cameron, I have to congratulate and salute him for sticking so persistently with this in the face of huge criticism from the Tory press and many of his own members.

Re: Commons backs Gay Marriage
Well, without undermining it, nobody is expecting this to change anything overnight. The majority of the incentive behind this was for votes in light of the economic policies of Cameron's government. Still it doesn't change that this is amazing news, in 30 years things will really be so much better because of this.

Re: Commons backs Gay Marriage
I always wondered why Labour when in power never did this. I mean in other countries like Spain socialist/labour parties were bringing in gay marriage but in the UK they never bothered. The Tories had to be the ones to get the job done.

Re: Commons backs Gay Marriage
It is a strange thing really. May be they would have if the world economy hadn't colapsed. But then again who knows? Glad to see all 3 Plaid Cymru MP's voted for. Disgusted that all 8 Welsh Con MP's voted against. All of which will be getting a nasty letter from me

Re: Commons backs Gay Marriage
Sarah Teather voted against the bill.
Clearly, she has been hanging around the Tories too much for her own good.

Re: Commons backs Gay Marriage
Huge props to Cameron for pulling this off. All the best speeches today actually came from the Conservatives too. Lots of them voted against it but ultimately it is their party that has pushed this through when Labour had 13 years and failed.
at all those DUP politicians being given way too much time in the debate today. I hope Ireland will catch up one day.

What? Sinn Fein, Fianna Fail, Labour, Greens, ULA and SDLP all support gay marriage only Unionists (DUP) and Blueshirts (FG) opppose it.
Unfortunately the 2 parties opposing are the ones with the power

Legalising Abortion would be a good start. Baffling that it's still almost completely illegal in this day and age.

In health/rape related reasons that could happen soon-ish but on demand still has quite low support at about 35%.

Sinn Fein are Pro-life.
The irony of it.
Anyway great news from England and Wales and a real step forward for everyone there

Convenient distraction from the economy. Smart move.
