I dont know why people are calling Bartoli socially awkward. I dont think someone socially awkward could come up with as many great quotes/insults as she does in her pressers.

Azarenka's 2012 AO Final speech shows how socially awkward she is. And I've definitely felt awkward listening to Serena sometimes especially during her speeches. They're definitely not shy though and that's what makes them awkward.
Venus and Maria seem pretty mellow and down to earth though.

Maria actually seems quite introverted but she's far from socially awkward.

I am an introvert, I studied introversion and I can't believe that AnaIvanovic and Maria Sharapova are introverted.
We are about 5-7% of the total.
The one tennis player that I consider introverted is (was) Elena Dementieva.

Socially awkward: Wickmayer,Azarenka, maybe Bartoli, maybe Kvitova but I understand her fellow players like her a lot. I think with Petra it was just a struggle to speak in English.
shy/introvert: Stosur, Venus Williams, Justine Henin, Elena Dementieva, Dinara Safina, Ana Ivanovic, Anabel Medina Garrigues
extroverted: Francesca Schiavone, Jankovic, Wozniacki, Petkovic

I would not call amg introverted. Shes not shy at all. Remember hopman cup 07 - she san happy birthday to a spectator infront of a while crowd. Even her hopman cup 2013 speech was her just being a smartass haha

It has nothing to do with being 'introverted' or 'shy', although it may appear to take those forms; it has more to do with being clueless to-one-degree-or-another as to social norms. Socially awkward people often say-or-do inappropriate things without meaning to so so, offend others: such as laughing at the corpse at a funeral and/or don't do what what is socially expected of them. They lack smoothness and grace in interpersonal interactions. None pf these girls are really socially awkward, contrary to many of the opinions voiced in this thread.
