It'll probably kill Petra as soon as she steps off the plane.

Re: How does smog affect players in Beijing?

I can understand the concern, particularly when the air quality is visibly poor in the city, but I don't see it as being any worse than playing in 40C+ weather like they have been in Australia. The conditions can be extreme sometimes, you just have to adjust to beat them.

I would have refused to pay if I was a player. And if there are players who do it, I don't think WTa has a leverage on them or will be able to force. It's clearly nor looking safe.

There is a massive difference between playing in heat and smog though, heat is grueling conditions, the smog poses legitimate health risks.

Also what's the correlation between smog and month? It seems to be nothing has been and nothing will be done to combat this by authorities in Beijing.

And yeah my fave lives in LA but there is more than one player in the draw so there is little relevance to that point.

Re: How does smog affect players in Beijing?

Thousands of athletes went to Beijing in 2008 and participated in grueling events and no one dropped dead or was severely hurt by the air. Unnecessary thread. No need to make a mountain out of a molehill. The smog in LA is no better.

Beijing had to clean up for OG, that's the sort of major point you're neglecting. It has done little to combat smog since then and no, if you have looked at recent figures it is a mountain.

I lived in Beijing and while you can certainly play, professional sport should not be held in conditions like this.

Beijing's bad weather only occurs in upper half of a year, autumn is always the best season
