WTA must learn, how to build a brand and their business.

Sometimes an audience and a following (like they could have done in Istanbul or any place similar), is a better long term solution than just taking the quick money from a new tournament where no one will show up and you won't gain new fans or build your brand in the future.

Visibility and impact can count in the long term, than fast, upfront money.

You'd've thought they'd have learnt by NOW that chasing the biggest short-term pay cheque is a terrible strategy Having people watch an event like the ATP London finals, where the crowds are full and fully-engaged, is much better for the long-term health of the sport, even if they're not lining the ATP/WTA players/CEOs' pockets as much in the short term as places like Dubai and Doha are.

Quite the contrary, nominating Kazan meant they were a bit serious (though not so much, I suppose). Nobody needs another sport event in Moscow or St. Petersburg, these cities are too expensive, have a lot of traffic problems and they are choke-full of different events, hence empty stands on Kremlin Cup and St Petersburg open.

Sochi is overwhelmed with all this Olympics thing, (I just cannot imagine their future hangover, after all this shit finally finished).

Kazan is so-called "sports capital of Russia", it's soccer, ice hockey, basketball, volleyball, water polo and rugby teams - multiple national champions. Now they want to become "tennis capital" as well.
