Re: Aussies in WTA events
Back to regular WTA tour...
Nastya qualified for the main draw in Pattaya City
Casey drew a WC, Kumkhum, in the main draw. A great chance for her first singles win of the year

Dont be so hopeful of Casey. Kumkhum is playing well.

Yeah this is not a great draw. Add Kumkhum's good form with hometown advantage I'm not so confident.

Re: Aussies in WTA events
Kumkhum qualified for AO didn't she? Don't know anything about her game but Casey needs this win badly.

Qualified and beat Arvidsson then got thrashed by Hampton. I saw a bit of her at QR2 and she has 2 hands both sides and her shots are very flat

Anastasia Rodionova has defeated Vania King in the first round in Pattaya for her first main draw match of the year. Well done and keep up the good work!

Casey picked up the doubles title in Pattaya City
Our 2nd doubles title for the year already after Nastyas victory in Auckland. 3 if you include Jarkas mixed doubles title.

Re: Aussies in WTA events
Alyssa Hibberd is playing doubles in Memphis right now, partening American Tiffany Welcher. They lost the first set in a breaker and are currently 5-5 in the second (Great effort playing Muguruza and Soler!!)
I wish more of our mid-ranked juniors would choose the college option, such great experience and it always does wonders for them in the long run (Bobusic, Bengson).

Re: Aussies in WTA events
She got a WC there last year too
Great effort so far. If I recall correctly, they got smashed last year.

Re: Aussies in WTA events
^Wow I missed that! Didn't Alyssa get double bagelled in a random WTA doubles appearance last year?
Meanwhile, Sam's managing a few wins on the WTA tour (finally). She easily beat Makarova overnight and had a couple of decent wins last week.
But I'm more excited about her playing dubz with Lisa Raymond again and doing well. I think they made the SF last week and had another win this week. Cara Black and Nastya Rodionova are also continuing to play and doing well. All this is good news for the race to doubles YEC: Dellacqua/Barty are currently in 2nd place, Black/Rodionova are in the top 10 and Stosur/Raymond are top 20 in the race. Nice work teams!

Re: Aussies in WTA events
^ Great victory. I think Makarova is a very good player, strikes the ball so well and for Sam to beat her in straight (she did so the last time they played also) shows she's hitting some form.

Re: Aussies in WTA events
^The stats are complete BS. Sam played a very solid match, maybe not brilliant, but very steady all the way through. She completely dominated Makarova, who played awful (I almost think they gave Sam half of her errors).
