I agree she can win all the other three Slams as it is, although a better serve would make things so much easier. I don´t even want to know, what happens, if Na Li holds at 3-5 in the third like Serena did at the US Open.

I would have shat my pants, that's what would have happened.

Chris Evert Very kind words. It's nice to see that some people still have some sort of sanity.
I think this was a very important tournament win for Vika, and she must have matured a lot during these two weeks. Excited to see how she will perform in the next couple of events.

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 4.
I wonder how much was taken out of Vika mentally these 2 weeks. It's been a long ride. 2 weeks to recover though I suppose. Doha and Dubai on paper are a perfect opportunity to exert authority over the rest of tour. It's also in theory Vika's only chance to add points to her total for a while. I'm not sure this will be at the forefront of her mind though, and it's probably more important to take a season long view because it would be really impressive to win another major this year.

Well she has points to defend in Doha. But she does have a chance in Dubai to add. I think i remember her retiring from a match or withdrawing.

She withdrew from Dubai to sell the fake injury and MTO from Doha final, which she had to take against the ever threatening Aga.

Yep. Vika has 900 points to defend in Doha in February 2013 as a winner, but she withdrew from Dubai last year where the winner gets 470 points. After that the next big tournament in March 2013 is Indian Wells where Vika is also a defending champion (1000 points) from the last year. If Serena doesn´t play before Miami in March 2013, Vika has good chances to remain at No.1 but she wasn´t playing her best game in Melbourne. But she surely showed her mental strength.

Yea i fully agree. I hope she can take a week or 2 off at least to recover and to regroup and to get on to practicing.

Vika making all the journalists and commentators eat their hatred with this win.
If Serena doesn't play before Miami, and Vika is healthy there's no reason why she can't defend those points, if not gain any. At the same time her 2012 streak drained her come Miami and the clay court season so I hope she doesn't over do it. While the French is the toughest slam for her, there's no reason she can't make the semis there.

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 4.
Serena is down for Doha and Dubai. But seeing as she went down in Melbourne with 2 injuries, and is currently walking around with some sort of visible strapping on her ankle, I would be surprised if she actually does. If she doesn't, she definitely won't play before Miami, but we will see. Tbh Vika should just concentrate on getting to her best level. Serena will probably get to number 1 before Wimbledon regardless. Vika won the Australian Open, but I think everyone agrees she can play better. And that is a good thing looking forward .
