Spoke too soon. She made the main draw as a LL, before falling to La Putintseva, 26 57.

Now to the off-season!

Taking 7 games off Putintseva is a good effort.

Ranking improved this year which is good to see, must have sights set on GS qualies in 2014.

This s a decent draw for a Russian 10k. Alex has the better half.

Artie somehow managed to up her ranking from #440 in 2011 to #332 in 2012, while still having a losing record by 1 match.

She's coming off a strong performance in Dubai, and really shouldn't be challenged until the quarters here.

Artie benefited from a lot of favorable first round 25k draws. Trouble was, she wasn't good enough to step it up in the second round when her opponents, did. Not to mention the almost regular supply of bagels, and mostly double she received.

In saying that though, she was almost always good enough to beat a lower or similar ranked player. And managed to shake off that embarrassing run of double bagles.

She was good in Tashkent, and Dubai. And she's started well her, losing 4 games in advancing to the second round.

Frolova in the quarters presents a problem.

I hope she didn't have mps in that second set

^ She and Dzehalevich saved mps in the QFs against Afanasyeva/Vasilyeva, but do go on to win the title without dropping any more sets.
