First time I am sure many people don't get the rules. It should get better next time!
I will try to revise the rules so whoever posts first tie-break won't be used so often.

I don't really get this game.
after R16 I've got 55pts and after QF I only have 23pts?

Intermediate updates are not final results.
As the round goes, a hand may be valid or invalid based on the players the participant chose and how far the players have advanced.
After Quarterfinals, for your hand:
Hand 1 - Ivanovic = 3 points
Hand 2 - Li Na/Sharapova = 5+5 = 10 points
Hand 3 - Azarenka/S.Williams/A.Radwanska = 5+4+4 = 13 points
To receive valid hand points,
Hand 1 is always valid,
Hand 2 must be > than Hand 1,
Hand 3 must be > than Hand 1 + Hand 2,
So you received 3 + 10(2) + 13(0) = 23 points
You received 0 points for Hand 3 because 13 is not > (10+3).
Your third hand will become valid after the final if Azarenka wins the Australian Open, because
Hand 2 - Li Na/Sharapova = 5+6 (or 6+5) = 11 points
Hand 3 - Azarenka/S.Williams/A.Radwanska = 7+4+4 = 15 points
and 15 > (11+3).
Currently, you, Igorche, and Kylger are all in this situation.
I hope it makes more sense now.

Re: Three Hands #1 - Australian Open [Congratulations to Drake1980]
Since my Hand 1+2 is equal with the score of Hand 3 it's invalid right now? If Azarenka wins will my Hand 3 will be valid then?
I don't understand how the bonuses work! Since my Hand 2 is better than Hand 1, my points are doubles for Hand 2. My Hand 3 doesn't have to be better than Hand 1 + (Hand 2)x2 right?
EDIT - never mind the first part , you explained it above but the bonuses are what I wrote right?

It's in the rules
Well I already saw this happening when I see lots of people placing same picks. Since it's a test season so additional rules will be changed in the later tournaments to make sure this tie break rule isn't used very often.
Any suggestions?
1. Each participant's pick must be unique to each other. No duplicates.
2. Add a sudden death hand by picking 1 player and the rounds the player reaches.
- Compare the rounds that the chosen player has reached, if equal
- Whoever guessed the right player in the right round, if equal, then use the original rules
- Players who do not place sudden death picks will forfeit the rights to use tie-break
Hopefully that will reduce the amount of similar picks and lead to less tie-breaks.

If Azarenka wins the tournament your third hand will become valid again. Only raw points are used to compare valid hands, no bonuses included. Once a hand is valid, they will earn bonuses (x2) or (x3) according to which hand it is.

The 1st option is not thinkable, especially in 32 draw. There is only so many options one can choose.
Love the 2nd option though. That would be cool.

Thank you for participating in Three Hands. Congratulations to Drake1980!
Next tournament will be in Doha with some rule changes to fix the tie break system.
Please give your opinion on how to do tie breaks in this thread (or in the Doha thread).
Final tie-break decision will be made before the main draw in Doha is out.

Re: Three Hands #1 - Australian Open [Congratulations to Drake1980]
NEW Proposed Rule Changes:
Option 1. No duplicate picks. You can have 5 players being the same with any given pick that's already posted, but the last one has to be new.
- In a draw with the least amount of players possible: 28 players
- 28!/6!22! = 28*27*26*25*24*23/6*5*4*3*2*1 = 376,740 combinations.
This will attempt to fix the number of similar picks but picks might still earn same amount of points because 14-16 players will lose in R32, 8 will lose in R16, 4 will lose in QF, 2 will lose in SF, 1 will lose in F. Tie-break rule will not change in this case.
--
Option 2. A sudden death hand. Everyone has to place a sudden death hand with 1 player (cannot be the same players chosen in the three hands) and the round the selected player loses.
- Additional tie-break rule will then be introduced for the sudden death hand should points earned between the players are equal and splitting points on valid hands will not yield results.
Code:
Tournament Tie Break:
- Number of Valid Hands, if equal
- Total points acquired in Hands 2 & 3, if equal
- Total points acquired in Hand 3, if equal
- Total points acquires in Hand 2, if equal
- Points on Sudden Death Pick, if equal
- Correct Round Sudden Death Pick, if equal
- Round deviations, if equal
- Lower ranking of the player chosen
To explain:
If everything else is equal (by taking out who posted the hands first), sudden death picks will be used to compare results. If sudden death picks yield same amount of points, then the predicted rounds will be used. If all the players predicted the rounds that the player advanced incorrectly, deviations of the rounds will be used. If that still does not produce a result, then the ranking of the player chosen will be used.To award risk takers, by choosing the player with a lower rank will yield the tie-break win.
Example (if there's a tie-break):
coolfish1103 picked Ivanovic for Round 32 in Australian Open
Drake1980 picked Kerber for QF in Australian Open
Compare results...
Ivanovic = Kerber = R16
Correct rounds?
Ivanovic R16 =/= R32
Kerber R16 =/= QF
Deviations:
Ivanovic -1 (R16-R32)
Kerber -1 (R16-QF)
Ranking:
Ivanovic < Kerber, Ivanovic ranked lower.
coolfish1103 would win the tie-break.
Any other suggestions are welcome.
Final call before main draw Doha, feel free to discuss here or in the Doha thread that will be opened during Fed Cup week.
