I'm indifferent to who wins tonight, but I do think Espn here has completely blown the MTO thing out of proportion..She was in the wrong totally but the broadcasters here beat you over the head with it.

Good point Chrissie-fan. I don't even really dislike or hate Fed but it's just the way the media and some of his fans portray him as some kind of saint, regardless of this type of behaviour and it's not the first time either, that annoys me.

Well, he's probably no saint. I think it's impossible to achieve what he has if you're a saint. All these top players are selfish and have big egos. They have to. You can't get to the top if you're too modest. But all things considered I think he's a nice guy and a great ambassador for the game. I'm sure that he's a bit cocky as well, but he's earned the right to be, and who wouldn't be in his position? But he's one of those very rare examples (Hingis being the other one) of a player that I love purely for the way they play the game. His tennis is eye candy to me, so he can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. But the fact that I think that he's a decent bloke doesn't hurt of course.

I know Mexicola's post was somewhat harsh, but I do agree with some of it to some extent. I too tend to question her talent at times.

Talent is fine. What is talent anyway. There are certain harder matchups, but thats not about talent, more like having the right tools.
I tend to worry more about her mental state before and after these matches. Just in the past 2 years she "made" GS champions like Na, Kvitova and Azarenka... and even gave Radwanska her 15 min fame. (Only other new slam champions in past years are Stosur and Schiavone.) So many failure cant be healthy, can produce anxiety. Probably it has connection that she is pretty introvert.
Well, onto clay now.
and she should enter Baku if she wants to win a HC slam. Only if Cohen or Pervak not playing, she would totally lose to them.

There's still Doha IW and Miami before clay.

I wish I was getting prepared to watch Maria play for a title at 3:00 am, even with all the anxiety that comes with it. Such an empty feeling tonight.

Still think that this is a major wasted chance for Maria. Both Vika and Na were horrible in the final. Sure, Na had a great day in the SF and played one of her best matches, but Maria could've found a way of taking it to a third and fought out the win in the end.

^ Yeah also I think that if she had managed to win against Li than that final would've been hers

Agreed. The way Azarenka played in the final, Maria could have beat her. But oh well, there's nothing we can do about it anyway.

Re: AO 2013: The Bridesmaid-Bride Double. The Sequel.
Yeh there's no point dwelling on this
you could say the same thing about RG 2011 or even the AO 2012 final when Masha was up a break. That's just tennis, it's a sport
Glad Masha looks at it in that way tbh. Some days luck just isn't going your way. And regarding the final, true she could've beaten Vika, but she also could've easily lost to her because no player plays the exact same game. If an injured Rena had somehow gotten past Sloane who knows if she would've beatdown Vika on one leg or not
Masha just has to concentrate on herself and her game. Lets hope we have another great season

Re: AO 2013: The Bridesmaid-Bride Double. The Sequel.
Dark days on the WTA. 5 out of the last 6 major tournaments go Serena and Vika. Azarenka starts the year with the most ridiculous excuse to drop out of Brisbane, she's plays badly for most of Melbourne, and gets another title anyway. Maria has ONE bad day and it costs her everything. It looks like when Serena gets injured or is upset, Vika will be the one to vulture in and take what she leaves her.
To paraphrase Serena, this was the worst 2 weeks of my life when it comes to a tennis major.

OK, I'm usually one of the leading optimists, but I can't deny I am bitter as HELL still
I simply can't believe Maria played as badly as she did

But she always fights for every point and is screaming disrespectful come-ons in the others' faces. This time there was nothing of that even in the beginning it was like she didn't even want to be there. Sorry to go back a bit, but I have to agree with this. That was the most amazing thing, that she was so muted and un-pumped-up. As GOATly as Na played in the 1st set, her level really started to dip early in the 2nd, and I still honestly believe if Maria had just pressed a bit harder she could've got Na to crack.
