Re: AO Chat Thread
Nole is giving Ferrer the Na Li treatment. He's absolutely crushing him. So good! 62 62 51

Did Ferrer hit himself off the court with a flourish of unforced errors too? Seems unlike him. I didn't watch

Re: AO Chat Thread
Ferrer. I used to like him, but too many pathetic loses against the big four- I can't hang with him any longer.
And thus another reason to despise Aze. At least if she wins her reputation is damaged. Medical timeouts due to nerves I don't think is unusual. I'm almost okay with it (as a Nadal fan I sorta have to be). What's really offensive is that she had to arrogance and dumb-ass-ness to admit it. Li Na, please get it done.

Re: AO Chat Thread
Ferrer is really a nightmare opponent for anyone ranked below him and a dream opponent for any of the big four.

I didn't see the match, but I read that Ferrer never had ONE break point, so considering Maria had 9 out of 12 games going to deuce, she did much better than him.

As I wrote on Twitter, ATP is a 3-man exclusive club. But I also think that, say, Tsonga (or for example Del Potro) when he plays like yesterday vs. Roger, could easily beat Ferrer.

Well, the way I see it the ITF/WTA/ATP make the rules and it's up to the umpire to uphold them. The job of the players is to try and win tennis matches and they use and will bend the rules as much as they see fit or can get away with. That's professional sports and if you think you'll improve your chances by taking a ten minute break and you know that you can get away with it of course you'll do it. It's not Azarenka's fault that umpires are reluctant to give warnings and penalty points.

Yes, I agree. Behind the big four (if we stll include Nadal) there's another group of four who in their turn are as much in front of everyone else as they are behind the big four. The second (almost) big four are Ferrer, Tsonga, delPotro and Berdych. Of those four Ferrer is the most consistent which is why ranking wise he does the best of them. He rarely plays below a certain level, but he never really rises above himself either. The other three are less consistent, but their peaks are higher than Ferrer's and on a good day they can beat anyone. That's why the QF or at the most SF is the ceiling for Ferrer. But he will make it there more regularly than the other three. But the other three have a minor chance of going all the way whereas barring miracles Ferrer has really none whatsoever. But when you consider what he brings to the table Ferrer is having the best career of all of them because he maximises his talent if anything he's overachieving, something that we arguably can't say about the other three.

Re: AO Chat Thread
The other three have clearly "mental issues" like Tsonga said about women it's a completely different thing between men and women because men keep it cool on an emotive basis (i.e. Tsonga yesterday joked just after Roger got a VERY lucky shot and he was about to lose the match) while women freak out crying and having bitchy handshakes (I could list endless), something I never saw in a men's match even after a hard loss... On the other hand, there are incredible headcases on a pure game basis, like Tsonga and Berdych who sometimes look like their brain is everywhere but on the court where they're playing.
