I personally feel it is something a little different from this though you make good points.

First of all Jennifer had a tendency to sometimes not go for the lines enough. This made her rallies longer than they rightly could have been.

Secondly her Backhand got weaker with time. She could often be pushed into a defensive position by avoiding the forehand and breaking down the backhand.

Lastly she got tight. I honestly believe the prior years nightmare semifinal (wonderful match but heartbreaking result for Jennifer) got into her head.

If Elena had not been fighting so ferociously throughout that match (and especially in the 3rd set) then maybe Jennifer would not have gotten flashbacks of the previous year.

Re: Longest rally ever

In 1979 I read about a point in a Jr 14 and under nationals that lasted 52 minutes. I believe one of the players was Cari Hagey. The player that won the point lost the match. The score was something like 6-3 6-2.

Re: Longest rally ever

This is Dulgheru after winning a 41 shot rally against Wozniacki at FO 2010 (2nd set @ 2-4):

She didn't even seem happy she'd won the point. Too exhausted. Unfortunately I don't have a video of the rally; I took the screenshot from ESP.

These two had a 71 shot rally last night. I left the room during the point and came back and it was still going so I missed half of the rally

The number of strokes is clearly exagerated. That corresponds to a stroke every 3 seconds. Those girls were moonballing, probably only striking the ball every 7 or 8 seconds.

If you calculate at 8 strokes per minute its around 250 strokes for 29 minutes.
