Re: Womens Tennis in General
IMO Domi showed all her weaknesses in that match. She was too hasty, lacked concentration and gave up long before the match ended. I was really surprised by this results as I expected her to at least give Aga a good run for her money like she did with Azarenka.

Re: Womens Tennis in General
Double bagel from Serena, I think she only lost 6 points in set 2!
Schiavone takes set 2, she and Kvitova go to a decider!

Re: Womens Tennis in General
No mentioning at all of Caro's win on the WTA site. The upsets - Errani and Petrova - get a mention as well as the top 8 winners, but not a peep about a lowly #10 despite her match getting a preview. Ironically, Caro's match probably would have been reviewed if she had lost ("Third Grand Slam 1R loss in a row for former #1") but not when she won! Hmm.

Re: Womens Tennis in General
That's interesting, another seed knocked out of Caro's quarter: Lesia Tsurenko beats Pavly 7-5, 3-6, 7-5. Last week LT beat Gajdosova and Hantuchova to reach SF at Brisbane where she lost in 3 sets to... Pavly. It gave the 23 yo Ukranian a jump in the rankings from #116 to #83, but too late for direct entry to AO, winning 3 Q-matches instead.
She'll play Gavrilova in 2R and the winner will play the winner of Caro - Vekic.

Watching Gajdosova play is almost like watching Lisicki!

Re: Womens Tennis in General
Wow. Stosur broken for 5-7 3rd set on a double fault after being up a double break at 5-2 3rd set.
That's horrible for arguably the 2nd greatest server in the women's game to lose a 3rd set after being up a double break.
I prefered Zheng to win but I do feel a bit bad for Stosur with her difficulties performing in Australia.

Re: Womens Tennis in General
Stosur really is a nervous wreck, particularly on her home turf, losing a double break lead in the decider and going from 5-2 to 5-7. But also props to Zheng for her figting spirit, never giving up.

Re: Womens Tennis in General
Second double bagel in a row from Sharapova! Masha only needed to win 48 points, meaning not a single game went to deuce (Doi only won 15 points altogether!
JJ almost loses in straights but scrapes out a 2-6, 7-6, 6-2 win over Koehler.
Chan breadsticks Ivanovic in set 2 to take it to a decider.
Ana closes it out 6-4. Chan 'won' on points 102-100 but that's small consolation.

Re: Womens Tennis in General
3R, bottom half
Na Li (CHN) [6] vs Sorana Cirstea (ROU) [27]
Julia Goerges (GER) [18] vs Jie Zheng (CHN)
Ana Ivanovic (SRB) [13] vs Jelena Jankovic (SRB) [22]
Heather Watson (GBR) vs Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) [4]
Angelique Kerber (GER) [5] vs Madison Keys (USA)
Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) [19] vs Marion Bartoli (FRA) [11]
Valeria Savinykh (RUS) vs Kirsten Flipkens (BEL)
Venus Williams (USA) [25] vs Maria Sharapova (RUS) [2]
With the exception of Savinykh - Flipkens, all these matches are at least halfway interesting. For a 3R, this is a pretty cool lineup!

I'm not sure either of thse upsets is too surprising.
Both of the winners showed good form in the warmup tournaments with Vesnina winning Hobart.

Makes me nervous that she Caroline could meet Sveta in the 4th round.
