Me either. What a fucking tournament! Here's a summary:
- Bojana Bobusic served for the set against 4th seed Agnieszka Radwanska but lost 5-7 0-6
- Ashleigh Barty did amazing to win the first set against 15th Dominika Cibulkova but then only won one more game to lose 6-3 0-6 1-6
- Olivia Rogowska was two points from winning in both the 2nd and 3rd sets, plus had a point to go up 5-1 in the third. She lost 6-8 in the 3rd set.
- Casey Dellacqua had set points in the 2nd set of her match against Madison Keys but lost in two sets.
- Jarmila Gajdosova had a set point against 20th seed Yanina Wickmayer but couldn't win it and lost in two sets.
- And now Sam Stosur just blew a 5-2 lead in the 3rd set against Zheng Jie and lost 5-7 in the 3rd.
I can't take it anymore. I'm getting drunk.

Such a joke! Do they all just lack the killer instinct or is the crowd advantage actually a disadvantage?! My poor nerves can't handle it it's so not enjoyable!

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
LOL. Sam is such a joke here.
No excuse. Two breaks. TWO!
If she actually says "I think I played well" I'm just about gonna scream. That was horrendous. Her double handed backhand would just about be the worst shot in women's tennis.
AT 5-5 I actually stepped out to meet a friend for a hit of tennis and I wasn't sorry I had to leave, cos I knew she'd lose. Where's the mettle? Is Jelena Dokic the only woman that is/was capable of riding the wave of support, digging deep, and..winning?

Even up 5-2 I still somehow knew she wouldn't be able to put the nail in the coffin. I think her whole year is screwed this time. She'll be unseeded next year imo.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Her press conference is on.
Admitted it's a choke.
She appears as though she has brushed the loss off. Obviously she's hurting inside, but she's not showing it. I wish she'd just blow up and throw a tanty

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
And the Australian Open is officially dead to me for another year. The only reason for me to watch the rest of the tournament will be to cheer for upsets from unseeded players.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
The worst part is just KNOWING that Sam will lose the match after losing the first set. In Slams she has never lost a match after winning the first set. But she's only won 6 matches from a set down. Bad stat that last one...
The only difference here is that she didn't go down an early break in the 3rd after storming to take the 2nd (a la Errani at RG last year). She actually kept momentum up and led 6-1 5-2 So really, she should've made this her 7th Slam win from a set down, no excuse. Worst choke I've seen in recent times.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
As frustrated as we all are this is heartbreaking and devastating She actually fought really hard, saved 7 set points in first set, and managed to turn the match around to being so close to winning. If she had won 6-3 imagine the confidence she would've got out of it, instead her confidence is now shot again.
I think she needs to dump David Taylor, I saw her hitting up yesterday and she was angry at him, like really pissed off! I thought it was ridiculous that she was actually hitting up with him! He can hardly hit the ball back and Sam should be practicising with a top Aussie junior male player with David T on the side as his hitting was really, really bad!

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
I feel exhausted by all of this carnage. It goes from being so excited about the tournament to feeling flat and so disappointed. As for me I need to find another girl to support for the rest of the tournament now..........I liked the look of Monica Puig but she lost in the first round of the qualifying. All we need now is for Robson to do well and be constantly reminded that she was born in Melbourne for god's sake. It is all so depressing.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
I don't dislike Stosur because of her mentality as much as I dislike her because of her game.
Her technique is awful, she has an extreme topspin production which is only useful if she plays back like Nadal does. And when she does land her forehands in, it has very low forward momentum. Her backhands suck because she doesn't move her feet or body at all, no control over the stroke.
Her slices sit up on the court rather than skid low like they should. Although to her credit it was her best stroke in this match.
And her first serve is exactly the same as her second. 1st serve you should aim for aces, not kick serves.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
I literally sat there and stared at the court in a daydream today after that match....how did that happen...
and the choke continues...don't even get started on the men...
Storm and Viki up 4-1 in the second, seriously the easiest seeded team to draw and what happens, ANOTHER FRIGGN CHOKE!
Thank christ Casey and Ash won...

Agree with all this.
Would have loved to have seen a blow up in the press conference. I think most of Australia would have.

I totally agree here. Though I think the mentality is an issue but I think her technique is the major problem.
Every player gets nervous, even the greats of Navratilova & Court were prone to huge nervous. But there is so little margin for error in her game that even a little bit of self doubt will cause her issues.
And the serve One, she can't nail a big serve on a big point and two - I believe she tinkered with the toss a big and lowered it a fraction. Thus, the huge amount that get slapped into the net. I think her % was OK yesterday, but not when it counted.
As for Taylor, they have apparently done so much work on situations like yesterday but nothing has changed. Many coaches would love to give Sam a hand. And its not like she has to get rid of Taylor, but she needs some specialised assistance to help with her technique.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Boj/Moore went down to Petrova/Srebotnik 64 62, not such a bad scoreline since Petrova/Srebotnik are like one of the faves to win.
Adamczak/Bengson - Black/Rodionova 3-6 3-1
