Re: Melanie Oudin
Accually, I think she played better last year. At least last time she found some passion and started hitting out. Also, If hitting every damn shot back to your opponent again and again is a plan from her coach, she needs a new coach.
Everything that made Mel such a fun player to watch was missing from that match, no energy, no aggression, no tactics. I don't mind her losing, it's the not bothering to play that's so frustrating.

Re: Melanie Oudin
Have no clue. She needs to work on some things before she plays again...

I saw a few games from the end of the second set. I have to say I agree with you. It was quite disappointing. Lots to work on; hopefully she will.

Re: Melanie Oudin
They seem to be trying to make her into the retriever she never was. Every time these announcers describe Mel's game, she's a "consistent player" who "waits for her opponents' errors". Have they never seen her play? She often hits more errors and winners than the people she plays. But, she's been playing this god-awful "ball machine" game since she returned from England, setting her opponents up to blast winners, then trying run down a perfectly struck ball. I don't see the point in any of this. It's not how she got back into the top 100. It's not how she won Birmingham. She needed help getting her head together, changing her forehand, changing her game, I don't see how they're making things better.

I cosign this post completely. In 2009-2010 I watched nearly every match of Mel's that was televised and she never had that loopy paceless shots. The shots she hits are just waiting to be attacked by the opponent. It's not how she used to play at all. I think she really needs to find a coach who can understand her game and take her back to how she was playing in '09-'10, which I think was an offensive counterpuncher.

Re: Melanie Oudin
I assume she still does. She needs to find a permanent coach that can improve her game and play at a consistant top 50 level. Melanie has the game to do it, she just needs to put the pieces together.
I think her next tournament will be the 100k ITF in Midland, MI.

Re: Melanie Oudin
Did anyone notice how bad her slice backhands were in this match. I mean I kno Melanie is a pro but those slices really sat up and I wish she would stop hitting them all together in that match. I guess it's nerves but I feel really bad for Melanie her mental toughness and fire around the court use to be her weapons but she was just so flat in her match. She really didn't show any improvement I think she might have played worse this Aussie than last year. Look at the highlights on Youtube from last year if you don't believe me very similar match. I think the problems all lie in Mel's forehand what happened to the pretty forehand that could hit with pace and penetrate the court??? At this point she should just go back to everything she was doing in 09'10.
