Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu
What a cruel draw for her.
The only hope is Monica will play good and the match will be at least somehow competitive

From Wertheim's seed report:
Quote:
Dark Horse Stable
Monica Niculescu: Likely won't beat Azarenka, but a lot of potential.

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu
Lost to Vika 1 & 4. Really made her fight for it in the second. Was up 3-0 in that set, before losing it.
Loss in the 1st round actually won't be that damaging. Estimated fall to #57.

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu
She played well, but let's say it as it is, she hit the shit pot in the draw. Pity, but she can be happy with the way her game is working at the moment.

At the end of the day this is what matters most.
Just keep that way when she will have other opponents.

Yup, as others have said, Monica is playing well and that is what matters most. She actually made a pretty good impression on the audience there who were definitely rooting for her and even more remarkably on the most of the posters who watched the match from TennisForum. It was a crap draw sure. But in the long run, it is better to be playing well and to lose to an elite player, than to play crap and get through to the 2nd round on the basis of an easy draw. As long as Monica maintains or even improves her current level she is in store for a great year.

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu
Funny how everyone in GM praises her uniqueness when she loses in R1 but claims she's awful for the game when she reaches the later stages of a tournament

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu
Unless she does something about that weak serve of hers I'm afraid the only future accomplishments will be winning some crappy Tashkent tournament once in a blue moon (and when all the good players are on vacation)

IKR
Especially that Niculescu confession thread in GM cracked me up, where everyone seems to love her and one week ago when she beat Peng, she was a disgrace for the game and everything.
GM logic, you know.

Oh, the shade.
Errani is a Top 10 player. Her serve is even weaker than Monica's, so this one alone isn't a hindrance to climb up the rankings anymore.
Drawing world #1s in the first round of slams and being regularly injured is.
