How do you know that?
According to sources here, she has entered a couple of WTA tournaments in February.

Sorry I don’t believe the wildcard element is irrelevant at all.
What creates mental strength and the ability to harness natural talent?
Creating an environment where someone has to have the hunger to win. Where this hunger comes from is different for each person, but in whatever way, true champions are put into situations that promotes this hunger to drive them to work to their upmost ability.
Australia has a history of spoon-feeding juniors through wildcards and providing coaching support by having ‘potential’. Ask our other can’t-miss juniors like Grant Doyle, Todd Reid, Joanne Limmer even Anabelle Ellwood who were told they were going to be to the best, given upmost support even when their results didn’t warrant it but when faced with adversary i.e. injuries, poor form, just didn’t have the mental capacity to battle through.
Nothing wrong with providing some tough-love to a 16 y/o and reducing the number of wildcards that come her way. (Even Lleyton Hewitt played in AO quallies once ) I believe Ash has the intrinsic hunger and drive to be a top player, but I think all bases need to be covered as we’ve had a number of Ash Barty’s the last three decades.

I agree with you that WC element is relevant. But you can't really say at this point that Barty has received too many questionable one.
Speaking of Hewitt, in 2012 he got 9 WCs most in the ATP Tour. Yes he is former #1 and all but the gifts can go both way.

Yeah spiceboy has access to official information. She is 3 out of Q in Pattaya and she entered Kuala Lumpur, we will know in 2 or 3 days if she is in the main draw.
After AO, she still can play 4 tournaments under AER.

Re: Ashleigh Barty
Wheels have fallen off, she can't even hit a ground-stroke anymore.
Disappointing, she had a big chance to win here and go deeper.

Re: Ashleigh Barty
She's 16. I know we want her to shine but teenage upsets are a thing of the past. She took a set off a top 20 player who just reached a tour final. Pretty damn good effort.

Re: Ashleigh Barty
Exact same as Hobart. But yeah she is still 16 and all these experiences will help her in the long run.

Re: Ashleigh Barty
I know she's just 16, it's just frustrating because she can clearly play much better. If she would have been outplayed (like in Hobart) or had deficiencies in her game then I wouldn't have a problem, but infact she was on top of her opponent most of the time and lost because of a lack of effort and concentration.

Agreed.
She had some very tough opponents this summer but stepped up and showed she can compete for a period with solid top 30 (or thereabouts) players. Hopefully in her next few WTA appearances she gets kinder draws!

I didn't see either match but is it really fair to say 'lack of effort'
I imagine in both Hobart and here, she exerted a huge amount of energy pre match and in the first set. For her to maintain a level that is constantly >> than the likes of Cibulkova and Barthel is a bit much to ask I think. The experts are always talking about being able to hang with higher ranked players who often seem to be able to maintain that high level just a little bit longer.

I think it is fair. She has a great attitude especially off-court, but on-court she just doesn't fight in my opinion.
No footwork, forehands flying long, slices barely reaching the net etc. And all those are coming in succession.

Re: Ashleigh Barty
When her opponent raises their level instead of sticking with them or raising her own level instead her level dramatically drops off. She cant handle the switch yet and step up.. that will hopefully come.
I think its a little unfair to say its a lack of effort. I dont think its lack of effort, I mean thats bascially saying she's not trying .. I very much doubt that. She doesnt seem like like the type of player to not try it just doesnt always work for her. Perhaps it may be a lack of concentration for a point here and there but I think all in all Ash has a great attitude especially since she is a 16yr old (I hate to repeat that almost as much as the commentators but she is) playing on some big stages.
