I'm pretty sure Kirsten is second only to Vinci as the best S&V player of the current WTA lineup. Her game is as far away from Brad Gilbert's game is as Pova's height is from Cibulkova's ass.

When i saw her playing against Mona last time she played a very tactical and clever game so it reminded me a bit of Brad Gilbert. She primarily played a defensive game at that day but also attacked at the right moment and thats how Brad played some years ago. I have to admit that i havent seen her that often so maybe she uses very different tactics depending on her opponents. And remember HowardH who characterized Flipkens in his post as an opportunistic player (this is a compliment i think).
And Brad was himself an opportunistic player who also attacked when he needed to but in general he was defensive minded, thats true. But you cant compare such a variable player with Wozniacki who really has hands of stone.

You're looking at it too simplistically (just in terms of "defensive or not"). It's not just a matter of whether you defend but how. You can't just lump Brad Gilbert with, say, Murray or Hewitt. Brad Gilbert wasn't defending - he was literally pushing! That was his stock in trade.

He didnt have much speed in his shots, thats true. But he surprised his opponents from time to time by suddenly playing S&V.
But hey, its no big deal when we disagree.
And what outcome do you expect from the Mona vs Kisten match tomorrow?

I think if Mona plays like today she will win (maybe something like 64 64). But you never know which Mona will show up. On the other hand she revealed some consistency in the last two weeks. So i am cautiously optimistic.

Tough draw but hope she defends her points at least.

Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2
R1 is tricky already, and in R3 she has nothing to lose. But I would rather have her play Radwanska than the other three top seeds.

Agree. Pervak will be very tough for sure. She is playing great tennis atm.

Hisagl, you're looking at Aga, but Ksenia's never lost a set to Mona in two meetings! Unfortunate first round for both!

Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2
I think that as for most of Mona's matches, it's all in her racket. Ksenia will get a lot of balls in play, and she's gonna fight like a demon, but she's not very powerful and Mona can definitely outhit her.
