Re: Julia Glushko
Great breakthrough for Julia! Also, the $23,000 for getting in to the first round should help her stay motivated and focused for the future.

Goes up against a 25th Seed (Wickmayer) in the first round.

Re: Julia Glushko
What a shitty draw!
She had a 75% chance to get a beatable opponent (12/16 spots) and she gets one of the other 4.

Re: Julia Glushko
Julia had two BP (30-40 and Ad) in a long first game, went down 0-3, made a valiant comeback to 4-4 and 5-5, and was broken for the set
Much closer than expected so far.

Re: Julia Glushko
Wickmayer wins 7-5 6-2.
A respectable scoreline.
Julia broke twice each set which I didn't expect at all, but didn't hold even once in set 2, and getting only 45% first serves in will get you in trouble regardless of opposition.
I still feel she could have beaten at least half of her possible opponents as qualifier.
Hopefully she keeps this up for the rest of the year and onwards.

Re: Julia Glushko
Julia is scheduled to be back in action two weeks from now, in a 25K in Japan.
She withdrew from a 100K in China next week, which other than the top two seeds (Peng and Hsieh) looked pretty soft (in comparison, there's a much deeper 50K in France also next week).
I get that she wanted some time off tournaments to practice and not overplay, but a six week period when she's in such good form seems a bit long.

Juila will play the WTA tournament in Osaka (Japan) next week, starting from the qualifying round. I don't have the full list, but I think she has a pretty good chance to qualify to her 2nd WTA main draw.

Don't know where she was supposed to be but she's not in the qualifying draw as you expected

Re: Julia Glushko
According to her twitter account from 4 hours ago she's in "the academy" and her knee is getting better
(Don't know which academy and I wasn't aware she had a problem in her knee)

She was on the list, and then withdrew.

Re: Julia Glushko
Sure Diyas is very talented, has two tour QF and 5 top-100 wins in her resume which is much more than Julia has done to date, but a double-bagel? Really?

AO qualies 2013
Julia's section:
(3)Greta Arn (HUN) v Akiko Omae (JPN)
(wc)Storm Sanders (AUS) v Yuliya Beygelzimer (UKR)
Irina Khromacheva (RUS) v Tereza Mrdeza (CRO)
Julia Glushko (ISR) v (23)Mariana Duque-Marino (COL)
Q1 winners in bold.
Considering Duque-Marino is no good off clay, I was even expecting Julia to win more easily, but a win is a win, and her 3-set W-L ratio at slam qualies just keeps getting better and better
Ideal draw for the next round as well, but not for the Q-round. Kind of reminds me of her USO 2011 qualies, when she lost to Wozniak in Q3 shortly after the latter routed Shahar on tour. May be the same with Arn here.
Late P.S. the back-to-back R1 losses in the 125K "WTA challengers", especially the second one, were a disappointing finish to a good hardcourt season.
