Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
I'll be going tomorrow. First time I'm going to qualies in about 5 or 6 years. Hopefully it won't be a massacre.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Oo exciting. I'm going to dig up the draws from 2011 and 2012 so I can remember the scale of the massacres. Surely tomorrow won't be as bad

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Omg last year *was* a massacre:
Sally - won 6 games
Viki - won 6 games
Tammi - won 4 games
Arina - won 8 games
Storm - won 8 games
Mon - won a set and a total of 14 games
The last Aussie to win a qualifying match against an international player was Sophie Letcher in 2011. In that year, Viki and Tammi both lost in three sets and Izzy beat Mon in the first round.
Tomorrow will be a new dawn, I swear!

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
I think the Aussies have done alright with the draw
Priscilla Hon v Valeria Solovieva - Valeria hasn't won a match since October, and has never played in a Grand Slam before, so hopefully she will be nervous and Hon can play like she did last month here. Its a learning experience for Hon anyway, but its a reasonable draw for her at the same time.
19-Anastasia Rodionova v Nastassja Burnett - Nice draw for A-Rod, she should win this given Burnett lost to Keothavong last week LOL
Storm Sanders v Yulia Beygelzimer - Good Draw for Storm, Yulia's getting old, also on a 5 match losing streak like Valeria and hasn't won a match since October. This is Storm's to win.
Abbie Myers v 5-Yung-Jan Chan - Actually a better draw than it looks, Chan hasn't won a match since US Open qualies, and has been injured retiring in her last two matches before last week. She's obviously still rusty but I expect she will get through, but the sets will probably be close.
Monique Adamczak v 20-Dinah Pfizenmaier - Dinah is like a German Rogowska as she plays mainly $25K challengers, prefers clay, so again not a terrible draw and has never played at Aust Open before. Monique will probably lose a set 7-5 or 7-6 or drop her serve at 4-5, but I hope not hehe.
Jessica Moore v 8-Karin Knapp - Knapp is over ranked, she's not that good off the clay, tightens up in Grand Slams and I think this could be closer than you think. I remember seeing Knapp when top 100 struggle past Wejnert
Viktorija Rajicic v 16-Claire Feuerstein - Claire improved a lot the last 18 months. I can't see Vik winning this.
Arina Rodionova v Maria Irigoyen - Maria is a scrapper who can only play on clay, Arina will win this as long as she keeps her errors down,
Tammi Patterson v Zuzana Ondraskova - Gold!! Don't think Zuzana has picked up a racquet in 6 months, went 2-14 in 2011, losing to everybody. I think she booked a cheap ticket months ago hoping she would make it into the main draw for a cash grab, too bad!
Sally Peers v Cristina Mitu - Mitu is mainly a clay courter, and a challenger player at best. Peers may surprise here!
Azra Hadzic v 15-Michelle Larcher De Brito - We all know how erratic Michelle is, if Azra can hang in there in the rallies anything could happen. Again not a terrible draw, Michelle has had some ordinary losses recently, but she's also capable of blasting Azra off the court .

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Last year was shocking. Both in terms of representation (6!) and results.
I remember when Sophie Letcher won that match a couple of years ago. 8-6 in the 3rd againts Beltrame. A shame what's happened to her since. 1992 was supposed to be a talented year - Holland, Wejnert, Letcher and Sumner. Now look...!

That Sletch match was incredible. She saved match points & everything. I really liked her yeah 1992 must have a curse on it!

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Thanks for all that info AUSBOY I dont have to research any of it myself now!
I'll start off the predictions!
Solovieva D. Hon 26 64 61 I think Hon will start off well but Valeria will get too solid when it counts.
An.Rodionova D. Burnett 75 63 Should have too much experience for Nastassja
Beygelzimer D. Sanders 76 76 I know everyones expecting a win from Storm but after a great week this week I'm expecting a letdown.
Chan D. Myers 64 64 Chan will make her play too many balls.
Pfizenmaier D. Adamczak 46 76 97 It's Monique.
Knapp D. Moore 63 76 I feel like it will be a similar story to her Hobart match. I think she's gonna have to start getting more consistent results at 25k level etc again before she gets a win like this.
Rajicic D. Feuerstein 75 76 Just got a feeling about Vicky this year. This is my surprise prediction.
Ar.Rodionova D. Irigoyen 62 64 Unless Arina can't find the court. Terrible surface for Irigoyen though. Should be useless.
Patterson D. Ondraskova 57 62 62 I think Tammi will sense the huge opportunity she has and tighten up in the first set before settling in and winning.
Mitu D. Peers 67 64 63 Doesn't come much easier than this but I just feel Sally's in a very awful place at the moment tennis wise.
Larcher De Brito D. Hadzic 63 63 Azra's baseline game will be no match for Michelle's, even if Michelle hasn't played a match in a while.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
^ Pretty much agree with you.
I can't see Monique winning. I really hope she does. But her qualifying record here is abysmal. I think she's only won first round qualies once (when she was a teen) and lost 1st round about 100 times. I could be wrong, but I doubt it..
Amazingly this is Rajicic's 4th straight year in qualies and she is still only 18. Hopefully she can finally get a win, but her opponent is tough.
This is Azra's first year in qualies I think? MLDB will be hitting too deep and hard for her, but if Azra can get in her head, you never know...

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Missing the action tomorrow as i only get in at 9pm....but fingers crossed that a handful of these girls can all get a win...
Like everyone else im just hoping for an improvement on last years disaster....
Good numbers and close to having Sally in direct also...shows how important racking up the cheap points are in our 25k events, every win counts!!
The same for our men where we had 2 direct (who both bombed out majorly today!) and 8 wildcards (wow more women than men!!), could of been better as Reid and Feeney were 1st and 3rd out...
GO THE AUSSIES!!

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Good WC choices and pretty decent draws overall. I expect both Rodionovas to win comfortably and Tammi should win her match. If we can get those three plus at least one or two more wins I'll be very happy.
GL girls.

I won't think Peers will win a set.
