Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu
Despite the loss, Monica has really been on form since mid October. Now she's just outside of the Top 50, and has a great draw at Hobart.

I disagree. She's had a terrible US summer for instance. She's always been capable of playing top 20 tennis, but usually only for 3-4 weeks a year, the rest of the year she's just another top 50 player. If she can maintain her current form for most part of the season, then she'll become another player.

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu
I haven't seen anything from today's match but it seems Zakopalova was mature enough to deal Monica's style.

Go girl and get some wins !
Curious about a Hsieh-Niculescu match possible in R2.

It could be a fun a match but I have a feeling Shushu will win.

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu
Perfect match up for Monica.
Didn't she beat Minella when being in holidays this off-season?
Some slices to her backhand should be enough.

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu
My only concern about this match is whether or not Monica has had enough time to get over her flight from China and adapt the the very different conditions, especially temperturewise, in Australia. This is not a given. But providing Monica is ready to play this is a match she should win pretty routinely. Must say though, I would have been more confident if Monica was given another day before playing this match. As it is, I am still a little nervous.

In this case, please don't watch Sorana vs Nina if you don't wanna be blind
Anyway, Monica won playing badly. This is a sign of a big player

Re: The Amazing and Remarkable Monica Niculescu
You know what I'm doing.
The best points were that drop volley of Monica who dropped on her side first and that shanked forehand of Minella on a simple forehand loop.
I don't want to talk about the 109138 netted volleys.

Seems not to have been a problem
Up next, Shuai Peng. Their h2h is even 1-all on hardcourts, but Shuai just edged Su-Wei Hsieh in a brutal 3-set match, so Monica will be fresher.
