Re: Ranking 2012-3

It's perversely? logical. Since Krista is #2, Sofie, who beat Krista at NIIC, is #1

I'm more surpised at Sofie not being ranked in dbls(after all she's a NIIC winner with Will and WAATC Finalist too), but the Fall result wasn't good.

vision I Southeast Regional Championship Round of 32 Sofie Oyen Brianna Morgan
Mia Vriens Amy Sargeant #40 Florida State University Loss 8-4

10/2/2012 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships (Qualifying) Round of 32 #29 Alex Cercone
Sofie Oyen Melissa Kopinski
Rachael White #21 University of Illinois Loss 8-6

----------
9/23/2012 Wolverine Invitational #29 Alex Cercone
Sofie Oyen Katie Zordani
Christina Harazin University of Iowa Win 8-4
9/22/2012 Wolverine Invitational #29 Alex Cercone
Sofie Oyen Brooke Bolender
Ronit Yurovsky #14 University of Michigan Loss 8-1
9/21/2012 Wolverine Invitational #29 Alex Cercone
Sofie Oyen Desirae Crawczyk
Hannah James #38 Arizona State University Loss 8-3

Re: Ranking 2012-3

Since the ITA preseason team rankings are so worthless, I decided to come up with my own preseason top 75 as message board fodder (ITA rankings in parentheses).

The top 6 could go in just about any order IMHO, but after that I think there will be alot of movement once the season gets underway.

My 10 teams to watch this year are: Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Yale, Florida State, Memphis, Columbia, Auburn, DePaul, Harvard, SMU

The Ivy League in particular seems to have gotten a lot stronger, but did they continue to train over the holiday break??

10 teams that might be on the decline: Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Texas, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Illinois, South Carolina, Arizona, Washington State

Thank you!

You think Vandy will be even better than UVA?
Granted Colton and Altick's addition is a big boost but surely UVA freshmen's Fall performances tops it? Elbaba, Nauta, Epstein..they already did VERY well in Slams..or do you think their performance is tempered by the graduation of Fraser and Hardenbergh, plus absence of Tomljanovic in the Fall?

And how about BU? They lost top 3 players but you put them pretty high Granted, Kisialeva was good and the addition of Leatu and Clay can only be a plus

We'll see at the end of the season

I will say though that these are based on the fall results and last season for returning players in each school's projected lineup, so I am curious to hear which school's rankings you disagree with? Obviously there will be some variations due to injuries and unknown newcomers in the spring, but I think my list paints a much more accurate picture than the ITAs.

I think UVA-Vandy could be a pretty intriguing matchup on paper - easy win for Elbaba at 1 and probably doubles but Vandy looks stronger to me at 5 & 6, with 2-4 pretty much toss-ups. Vandy didn't get much action in the fall due to their hazing incident, so their freshman are still somewhat of an unknown commodity, but they look to have very good depth 1-6 all at a similar level which can be a winning recipe in college tennis. Of course, 1 injury and they could drop off quite a bit. UVA freshmen are good, but they will all probably play in the top 4 of the lineup with Xi unless the other returners show much better form than in the fall - certainly possible as Vierra, Tomljanovic, etc. have played at a higher level in the past, although "out with the old, in with the new" is kind of the motto of the current regime at UVA, no?

Baylor is a question mark, but Burgic and Horter improved a ton in the fall and if Clay and Leatu are healthy(?) and play at the same level they did last season in the SEC, I don't think Baylor drops off as much as might have been expected after last season.

Thx. On BU, totally forgot about Kiah Generette playing in the Spring She a big hitter, so when she's on, watch out.

I think you have the Big Ten way to low! They will be much better this year with some teams having more depth then last year from the people I have talked to. I also think Michigan and Northwestern will be top 10 teams this year!

MICH did get Ronit Yurovsky, who won the ASU invite by beating 3 CAL players and in the final Krawczyk.

Wow. Texas at 40? I think Texas has some newcomers this semester so they probably won't be doing THAT bad.

I was aware of a few spring enrollees (e.g. Okuno to UGA), but others could significantly raise the stock of certain teams.

Both Sarah Borwell and Nicola Slater had some interesting points to make on ITA rankings generally on facebook as part of general advice to those considering college. I'll try to copy them across when I get home.
