Sanchez is actually a pretty good player and Vania of all people is only marginally better so I don't know why you find this amusing in the least.

By the time they get in the main draw, if they are lucky, they have already played several matches, spent many hours on the courts

Sanchez is an ITF-er. My fave college player, Krista Hardebeck, beat her twice even with her unorthodox, janky technique.
Vania does have her moments, but this result is not promising to show the effectiveness of her offseason.

Maria Sanchez actually was one of the most improved players of 2012... her ranking jumped like 500 spots. Agreed that Vania should win this match, but you're not giving Maria any credit.

Watched the whole match live.
Vania was up 6-1 3-0 easy then choked 2mps. She just lost all the tight points but was way too consistent for sanchez who was very up and down

Yes, she was. Sanchez had the biggest ranking jump on tour last year.
