Re: The Discovery Thread
I agree, Bhosale is a good player. Lizette's next match is winnable. Not sure about the other two, Sara can be pretty random so you never know.
Naiktha and Zoe will be winning matches like that in a years time, they are much younger than the Belgian girls.

Re: The Discovery Thread
Thailand G2 - SF
(3)Lizette Cabrera def. (1)Sutjiadi 7-5 4-6 7-5
(4)Buayam def. (15)Sara Tomic 7-6(6) 7-6(4)
Great win for Lizette over a top 50 junior. Very respectable scoreline for Sara as well, considering how Buayam has been breezing through her matches this week including a 2 & 1 win over Tjandramulia in the previous round.

I notice that one 'Miel Balestrat' is playing quallies in Bendigo. Anyone know anything about her? Is she the daughter of Dianne?

A few daughters of ex-players out there nowadays - Peers, Harris and now Balestrat. I didn't know that James Duckworth's grand mother is former Australian Championships winner Beryl Penrose too.

R1
Sara Tomic(AUS) def. Gyung Eun Song(KOR) 6-2 7-6(5)
(11)Zoe Hives(AUS) def. (LL)Chi Hyun Jung(KOR) 6-0 6-0
Da Hye Kim(KOR) def. Isabelle Wallace(AUS) 7-5 2-6 6-0
(9)Danielle Wagland(AUS) def. (Q)Jinxuan Wang(CHN) 6-2 6-2
(5)Lizette Cabrera(AUS) def. (Q)Yuseung Suh(KOR) 6-1 6-0
Naiktha Bains(AUS) def. (wc)Yunjeong Park(KOR) 6-2 6-1
Priscilla Hon(AUS) def. Ya-Ting Chang(TPE) 6-3 6-2
(13)Georgina Ruhrig(AUS) def. (wc)Soyeon Park(KOR) 6-3 6-4
R2
(16)Yan Wang(CHN) def. Sara Tomic(AUS) 7-5 6-1
(11)Zoe Hives(AUS) def. (wc)Ah Song(KOR) 6-1 6-0 *Song has a WTA ranking of 1150
Eudice Wong Chong(HKG) def. (9)Danielle Wagland(AUS) 6-4 6-3
Kanami Tsuji(JPN) def. (5)Lizette Cabrera(AUS) 6-2 7-5
(15)Qiu Yu Ye(CHN) def. Naiktha Bains(AUS) 1-6 7-6(9) 6-3
Priscilla Hon(AUS) def. (7)Kamonwan Buayam(THA) 6-2 7-6(7)
(13)Georgina Ruhrig(AUS) def. Yukun Zhang(CHN) 3-6 7-6(3) 6-3
Dissapointing loss for Bains, wouldn't mind betting she lost a big lead in the second set. Great win for Hon over the girl who took out the G2 in Thailand a fortnight ago. Hives seems to be progressing really well and one more win this week could see her closing in on DE for next years junior AO. Good to see Ruhrig racking up the wins as well.

Re: The Discovery Thread
People might not know of Pantuckova either, but I looked at her results and they've been outstanding in Europe. Great win for Sara, signs look positive for her.

Re: The Discovery Thread
Rest of todays R1 results:
(1)Siniakova def. Inglis(AUS) 7-5 2-6 6-1 *Maddison takes a set of the junior number 2
Xu def. Long(AUS) 6-4 6-2
Okamura def. Cabrera(AUS) 6-4 5-7 6-3 *Not a great result for Lizette.
Stojic(AUS) def. Sutjiadi 7-5 6-3 *Nice win over a top 50 player for Stojic.
9 players into R2 is a very good result, especially with a not one all Aussie matchup occuring.

Hives is 2 years older than Hon. Priscilla is already better.
Tomic is the same age, but Priscilla has beaten her in most of their big finals. Could be a good rivalry in coming years though. Bains is only a little bit older than Priscilla, but results are lagging a little lately. Big future though, so we shall wait and see.
Aiava is a couple of years younger than these girls, so not in their age group as such.

Re: The Discovery Thread
Elise Mertens BEL [6] d Stefani Stojic AUS [W] 6-2 6-2
Sara Tomic AUS [W] d Ching-Wen Hsu TPE [3] 6-2 6-3
Ipek Solyu TUR d Pamela Boyanov AUS [Q] 6-1 6-0
Amazing win for Sara against a "top ten" player. She's really in form right now. Next match against Rischbieth/Lekaj is winnable too.
