I really thought they would follow the trend of recent years 2008, 2010 etc. and give it to the #1. Nice that Serena has her third one of these awards and next year hopefully can get the ranking back to match.

Played Fed Cup, won the Olympics and two Slams.
There's no way she was losing this.
Azarenka had a shot at the WTA Award but that's about it.

How close do you think it was between Serena and Vika? Would a Vika win at the YEC been enough for her to get the ITF with her holding the #1 for the majority of the year and winning a first slam?

Did she win two ITF events?  Vika had a great year, especially on the WTA tour, but ITF runs the slams.

Congratulations to Serena Williams! A phenomenal year that involved overcoming injury and defeat.
