Re: Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship, USA, GA
i wouldnt agree she's the best junior in a while, she's too young to be claimed one... may as well fade at the age of 16, hitting the ITF 25Ks like many before her (mind Beck, Putintseva, Vekic, Kontaveit, Bouchard didnt even play this...)
but i wish her the best, good that she won, her season end was very impressive and she beat all serious opponents left, Bencic, Townsend, Siniakova

Speaking about the bandwagon, it's a cool different feeling when you become big fan of a player before she even hits top 100 in juniors and 8 months later so many other guys jump on the bandwagon

I sense Ana's potential the first time I read about her, then I decided to root for her in a big way after she won the G2 in Florence, Italy. And I started to post in her thread Then, a month and a half after, Ana won Santa Croce and I watched her for the first time in that final which she won over Barty (I know, I know, Barty retired at 6-4 2-5) and then I knew she was a real deal

Re: Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship, USA, GA
Well, it's not like she is a totally unknown before this, the first time i heard about her was when she was 10 (well 9, because she was born in december) when she lost against Virginia Peña in the final of Smrikva Bowl. And she always was one of the best players born in 1997, but i think it was last year when she stepped up, and start to rise her level. In some terms is a similar case to Vekic, always a good player among the tops of her cathegory, but suddenly rise up over the rest. We only can hope her progression continues. Wta needs some young stars

Whatever happened to Peña? I remember her being featured on that special about the Nike Junior Masters and she seemed like a fun kid with a good game. Mestach, Uberalova, and Quinzi were all featured on that program as well and have done pretty big things (granted all were playing in the 14s division I think) but I have yet to hear anything about Virginia.

Re: Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship, USA, GA
Peña was one of the best players of 1997, she had wins against Konjuh and Ostapenko, and she used to defeat Sorribes, but in the Nike spanish master that year, she was injured in the back. She won that match against Sorribes, and even was runner up of the international masters that year, but she had to stop playing for six months.
She came back to play the european nation challenge u12, and even she won all her matches but one (against Ploskina) wich was quite impressive for a girl coming back from a long injury.
Then she only played spanish master nike, she lost with Payola, and that was her last match. Her injury came back, and she retired. I think it were too many injuries at such young age, and too much pressure too. She had a very unusual game for a spanish player, with flat groundstrokes. It was a pity, because she had a lot of potential

That's really sad! Hopefully she can at least play college tennis or something one day and get something out of her talent.
