Well did you expect any miracles? I don't think she has trained that much... probably more fitness training than anything.

We will see at Australia if her game is somewhere decent, not today.

Only thing I can say she doing different is she trying play more volley and drop shot which is a good thing I guess

We better start to prepare ourselves for next season, I feel it won't be any better than this season!

Very possible, but lets wait until the losses are for real before we give up.
But yeah, that she's with Rory every week is not a good sign for offseason improvement

Yeah, but it's only an exho, and she never plays well in those at the best of times. She didn't look good, but Caroline without the intensity will always look poorly against a shotmaker.

I know, I know! I just have this feeling that she's isn't dedicated to tennis like she used to be, and that she isn't taking the offseason(s) seriously enough! After awful season she had, she really should work her ass off on the court trying to improve her game!

I think she's probably working just as hard, but she cant focus like she used to.
Thats the most important part of this sport (because its one on one), you have to play big points well. In her last match against Nadia, Caroline wasnt winning the important points

I also hope that she will be able to return to her previous level. It will take time and a lot of work, she kind of implied that in her previous statement. Even though it was just an exhibition in showed that Sharapova is on a higher level right now. Caro will really need to step it up in 2013.

I really would never draw any conclusions about anything for any player from an exho like this. It just amazes me that anyone tries to make anything at all of them. I might take something like Hopman Cup a little more seriously as to where a player might be - but I've learn't to be very sceptical about drawing any conclusions even from that more serious exhibition.

On a wider note about Caro playing in them - I have no problem when it's now. I have a lot of problems with her playinmg exhos right in the middle of the season at the same time as IW and Miami though.

Incidentally - I'm sure Masha always wants to win these exho matches however much she might let up. Caro couldn't care less about losing an exho like this. I once saw where they got 6 ordinary people on one side of a court for fun with Masha on the other side. One of the people served and Masha just blasted the return for a winner.

I thought jeez it's supposed to be a bit of fun - like you could try to get a rally. It's not a serious match to prove you can beat 6 ordinary people the other side.

must have looked really bizarre. Trying to get a bit of fun going obviously. Just one person there incapable of 'fun'.

I agree with your other observations in re to exho ... sorta, as I still think you can gauge some insight form. Serve was not good. Even it's an exho, no need to serve into the net. Right? .. And over-all, even this was just an exho, it was - imho - unfortunately also very clear, that in a real match, Sharapova would win with ease.
