So, I guess I'm right in saying that in America, the 'V sign' isn't offensive? Because it is in Britain... I feel like I'm being insulted every time I see these pictures.

I was going to comment exactly the same thing, but seeing as noone else took offence I didn't see the problem

In America, during the hippie era, after the invasion of the Beatles and rolling stones, two fingers were used as the peace sign, related to the war in Vietnam.
